I know many mainstream Catholics who are good and decent people. It is unfortunate that their leadership is so hopelessly corrupt.

The main problem in convincing people that Individualism is preferable to Collectivism lies deep in the human psyche. Humans begin asking questions in childhood. Why am I here? Why is the sky blue? Who is God? The answers for most adults on Earth can be found in the traditions, myths, and customs of their parent’s religion. Children are totally dependent on their parents and extended family for their very survival. They grow up believing what they are taught is absolute truth. Collectivist religions, Collectivist governments and societies have been the dominate way of life for the majority of time that humans have existed.

Individualism is a newcomer having been practiced by Americans for around 230 years. I would like to offer a simple solution. I don’t have one. The ideas of John Locke, Americas’ founding fathers, and Ayn Rand in favor of Individualism seem so obviously true that I cannot understand why they have not been embraced worldwide.

Catholicism = Collectivism = Communism.

Excellent observation! If one considers the effort each member makes to perfect their craft, then they are all shining examples of Individualism. The pope needs a new way to sell his altruism.

While the orchestra needs all the instruments to be its best, it is the INDIVIDUAL player, each playing their own instrument that adds to the whole. It's also their choice to play with whomever they chose and at whatever compensation agreed upon. The "whole" is a product of each individual's choice to participate.

The Catholic Church has been about power (vs nice stuff) since it's origin. From the Inquisition to Bruno and Galileo to WWII to pedophiles, they have worked for power every time. Let's expound on his orchestra comparison re: individualism. Each instrument must maintain it's very own trained ,disciplined individual sound for the whole of an Orchestra. The flute cannot become the tuba nor can a bassoon be a trombone. It is only through the voluntary joining of many individual talents, trading for value with each other that a harmonious sound is made....he made a good argument ...but not for the vision he intended.
