I trust Synology RAIDs for my data and backups.
I buy a SOLID machine every 5 years.
About 2-3 years in, I find the same machine, used, off lease. And I buy that as a backup device (Swap the drives and memory and go).

I've had to use this twice in my career because of hardware failures. Then I simply work on ordering the new machines. (I spend $5K on a new laptop, so I am not the norm. 64GB, 4 internal SSD Slots). I Don't play computer games.

Anyways. For lightweight stuff, I like the LG Gram. It's almost disposable at $1,200 for something equipped. I travel with that. My main machine stays under lock and key, LOL.

i LOVE used HP and Dell workstations from eBay

        just got a HP Z440 for $100
and a Dell 7810 Dual Xeon for $140

i found an adapter on eBay that lets you put 3 drives into the front space on a HP that would hold 2 (drives or DVD-readers)

and i believe i can get an older system to see over 2TB with a PCIe SATA adapter

re-certified 12TB or larger drives, with RAID work great, buy one extra of the same for a spare

Oh I love the little kitty cats. My Fred is gone but I have the sweetest little Foxey (Chi wah wah) She sleeps under the covers in my bed. She loves being outside barking at all the bigger dogs and cats and people. She's really noisy but my neighbors really like her too.

I'm curious about something. I bought a Ford Compact SUV 2023 model. Progressive insurance listed it as a 'new car' and the premium for six months is $1840. It was manufactured in 2022, went on the market in 2023, I bought it in September of 2024 and in April of 2025 they call it 'new'? What's wrong with this picture? I call it gouging the price of car insurance. I'm going to complain to the Texas Commission on insurance. Senior grouging does not please me. n
