Is Michelle really serious about child nutrition, or is the goal here just to screw over the middle class.

The one thing everyone seems to be missing here is that this lunch, in all likelihood, was provided to the child free. Michelle needs to mind her own business, but there is a strong idea, amongst apparently everyone in the country, that somehow the child in question is owed a lunch that the child and the parent like. NEWSFLASH.....this is what happens when you rely on government to provide for you!

One other point...If the first lady is so excited about nutrition.....how about changes the SNAP program. With all the bar codes that are assigned to every item in the store, it would be very easy to put prepared foods, potato chips, snack foods and soda on the list of items that cannot e purchased with the EBT card. But nooooo!! The administration won’t do that , that would improve nutrition amongst those poor downtrodden "High risk groups" but it wouldn’t screw over the middle class in this country.

Of course the goal is to screw over the productive class. The only ones who benefit are the Big Names With Pull. Even the clients of those programs fall into a trap--though it's a trap of their own making. They voted for those guys, after all.

Well...it is not 'fine dining'. But cummon! How many times have you slapped a hunk of meat on some bread and dashed out the door? If you are hungry, it is a great meal.

Why is anyone following Michelle’s wishes? She is not a member of the executive nor of congress. She has no power to enforce. It seems to me that whoever follows this is just a leftest lemming!

all I'd like would be tartar sauce and butter, and I
would go to town! . Yes, it looks like gulag food,
but it might be healthy (no one reported sick?)
and I love fish -- preferably without the scales. -- j

No wonder the nations kids go to bed hungry every night. Wasn't it Michelle Antoinette who said, "let them eat ethanol?"

Either that or she was hired by the people who bought Hostess and is fronting a save the Twinkies and Ding Dongs effort. Otherwise where would he next government party candidates be found.

I wonder how much she has to beat up the kids to make them eat her idea of a "nutritious" meal?

I don't get it. How much does it cost to by whole chicken breasts, a dozen eggs, a loaf of bread, mayonnaise and mustard? Cook up the breasts, boil the eggs. Slice up the cooked meat, make egg salad...and you're set for a week worth of sandwiches. Throw in a banana, apple or a Little Debbies. That's only one idea. There are tons of inexpensive, nutritious lunch ideas.

If more than just a few families can't afford or find the time to prepare such simple meals, America is a very scary place in which to live.

The best way to deal with Michelle Obama's nutritional takeover is to not give it power. Bring lunch from home. The end. If doing so is too expensive, one can't really complain about what is given to them for free. If one doesn't have the time to prepare lunch and chooses to purchase a school lunch - that is a choice freely made. Seems odd to complain.

Anyone who is getting a handout - and ANYTHING you accept for free is a handout regardless of why you are accepting it - pays for it, not with money, but by giving up the freedom to make a choice.

    Beggars can't be choosers.

It doesn't look too bad, if I look at the photo only, it resembles a simple japanese lunch composed of a mackerel filet, some nattou (fermented beans), and instead of rice, a bun of bread. It misses the miso soup though, or some pickles for the bread.

    Example : http://marusijr1966.up.n.seesaa.net/maru...

Of course, in reality, instead of nattou, I wonder what it can be, and also the portion seems suspiciously under-sized, as if the goal was to prevent optimal brain development in children by way of malnutrition. Come on...

I grew up in the Detroit Public School system. We didn't have vouchers or anything like that for the poorest kids, which was just as well. Compared to the unrecognizable, inedible slop available in my schools, the lunches I've seen kids publish pics of look positively four-star. We either brought our own lunches or willingly went hungry.

I can now well imagine that there are kids who do not go to school hungry but come home hungry after looking at a mich-hell lunch and saying "Yuck!"
I had it made as a school kid back in to 50s and 60s. The food wasn't great but it was almost always tasty to some extent.
One of the funniest sights I ever saw was another elementary school kid sticking a straw into a mound of Jello and blowing air through it.
That Jello wriggled all about until it exploded.
Also funny was another kid spitting up his fruit juice for laughing when the Jello went flying.
Bet there's no Jello for a kid to blow up now.
Many years later in 1982 I ate the same state food at the Alabama Corrections Academy in Selma. For the next 21 years I watched inmates eat that same state food.
Inmates always complain about their food but it is essentially the same stuff they ate in school.
Woe is the lifer who can only dream of eating steak, baked potato or lobster.
Woe to the prison should mich-hell food be served. Since I'm now retired, I'll only have to read about the riot.

The woman is intrusive. Not only that, she's nosey. None of her business what I eat, what my children eat, what my grandchildren eat and what the kids next door eat. When are the sheeple of America going to stand up to this knowitall woman. Is she a nutritionist? No! But she plays one in the White House. I wish I could get close enough to her and eat her food recommendations and then blow chunks all over her. GRRR.

Michelle Obama seems to know little about anything, except hatred for this country. She was forced to surrender her law license or face prosecution. She did NOT major in nutrition, and I do believe one photo of the family in the WH living quarters showed a dish of nachos and sauce on the table. It is a case of do as I say, not as I do. I think she was hoping no one would notice she knows nothing of what she is trying to use as her legacy as First Lady. It is a lot like Al Gore and his non-expertise on the pseudo global climate change, not stopping him from making money on carbon credits.

I am trying to figure out what is wrong with a fish fillet and a bun. I don't like fish, but if I imagine that it is a hunk of chicken instead, there are tons of times I have snatched a leftover chicken breast and a roll and stuffed them in a bag to take with me for breakfast or lunch on the road - and I was often on my way to do something more strenuous than sit at a desk.

So, given that you like fish: What is wrong with this?

I worked in a HS cafeteria 8 years ago. My school had a program (not advertised) if a child could not afford lunch they could go to the bookkeeper tell them they were hungry, had no money for lunch and they would get a lunch voucher. When I found out about the program I made sure every student trying to get by on a candy bar or bag of chips knew about it.

When I was in elementary school, we had a school lunch program that was quite satisfactory. And even the poorest children got fed, not because the government was paying, but the local churches and organizations were picking up the tab for them. And they made sure the food was good and edible. I know this because I worked as a lunch helper in my latter years there and remember spot checks that were conducted. Then the government decide it was their job and the quality plummeted as did the number of covered children. It seemed the not so poor (those who parents made just a little too much to qualify for a free lunch) were left out when it came to the government. But then it was just a flim-flam on the government's part to take over all school lunches to protect these poor unfortunates who were forced to starve while everyone else got to eat fine. Because if you rely on government to fix a problem, be ready to for them to come back in a few years to fix the PROBLEMS their fixing the first problem created. Because government isn't in the problem solving business, but the how can we keep the money flowing to our pet projects business.

The "native american" has a great deal of experience in what happens when one relys on government to take care of things. Unfortunately , it appears that some have not learned from that hard experience.

Same as all well-intentioned rules to control people. They don't work unless there is an objective that 1) the people see and 2) the people endorse.

I just love all these same people pushing their version of healthy, non GMO eating also argue 1) against negative connotations for being fat and 2) that an overweight person should get a handicapped sticker for parking!

I am on an Indian Reservation. It's an open rez, so you do not have to be tribal to live here or own property. Of course the tribe would like to change that. It's been an open rez for 100+ years.
