    I'm sorry, but what could have been so challenging at the 2nd grade level that an adult couldn't have understood it?
    Please don't misunderstand, I abhor Common Core and have been fighting in my own state to get rid of this. That said, I cannot see what could be so complicated that an adult couldn't comprehend it.

    I can hardly explain my reaction to that photo. I could not stand to see my little one (7 years old as of Valentine’s Day) in that position. It reminds me that our choice for my wife to stay home and homeschool here is not a sacrifice, but an investment. It would hurt me to see my girls like that.

    these crazy steps they put in place that you must master to solve simple equations. pure manipulation-designed to destroy one's ability to reason

    That picture could be of my youngest granddaughter. I have spent many hours showing her different ways or woking math problems so that she can solve many problems in "math" now. The common core approach is not sitting well with her or many of her classmates. Hew most vocal comment is "It doesn't make sense!"
    I've looked over the assignments and reading material. she is right what she being taught does not make sense. I don't know if it is common core or something else the school board selected, but it doesn't make any sense to me and I "work math problems" for a living!
