As I reviewed this "best picture" nomination for a 2016 Oscar, I realized that a potentially great movie had been fatally infected with political correctness. But the review in the NYT did the director one better by suggested a purely Marxist theme...

    Thanks for taking the time to comment. DiCaprio certainly isn't obviously "the type" for the role. I imagine that some stuntman rode the horse, unless it was walking. At least he didn't ride side saddle. Of course, many of the best riders--as you suggest--actually are women. Thanks again.

    Fun, but fictional account of an already great story. Dicaprio does not impress me as a believable, tough, mountain man. He swings an axe like a girl and rides a horse like a dude. No offense meant to girls and dudes. Tom Hardy would have been more convincing in that role.
