When a half-dozen men and a woman in street clothes closed in on University of Virginia student Elizabeth Daly, 20, she and two roommates panicked. That led to Daly spending a night and an afternoon in the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail. Her initial offense? Walking to her car with bottled water, cookie dough and ice cream just purchased from the Harris Teeter in the Barracks Road Shopping Center for a sorority benefit fundraiser.

    Were you there?

Would you have looked at a group of 'suits' wielding badges, and just hit the accelerator in panic?

    I think not...even if you are "a blonde"! ;-)

    Not intentionally!

I just wanted to see a 'time out', until some thought could be interjected before we lynched anyone.

    Darn right!

The article is slanted to say the least, and even if half right never takes the other side into consideration.

Every 'incident' can be positioned this way, and this account shouldn't be the final judgement.

Just suggesting that there may be another interpretation....

Spoken like a true Al Sharpton!

Back down, and take a deep breath.

Now look at what the officers were seeing..or rather, dodging.

The girl(s) were in control of the events, and they chose to 'hit and run' the officers. No shots were fired, and that would have been an entirely different scenario.

They were just unbelievably dumb, and my mother used to tell me "there is no cure for dumb".

yes, my focus is on the victims. Those cops could have sent ONE cop to the car door. no. they descended like locusts. People have a right to react when accosted.

The "cop school" does not teach you to just quit when the subject is able (and apparently willing) to run you over.

That part of the story is being lost in the menusa.

There are always two sides to a story. Most of what you point out is from the driver's side of the SUV...and very subjective.

They will surely go on their way legally...but it is not fair to second guess the officers

I'm going to buck the tide here and make an obvious observation: The two girls were in their car and asked to get out by the officers, who were displaying their badges. Another report that I saw stated that NO guns were brandished UNTIL the driver started the SUV and tried to drive away and actually hit several officers. The driver claimed that she had to start the car to lower her window, which is not true...you just have to have the key out of the LOCK position. I will assume that she is blonde, and scared. She could have done the easy thing, which is to step out of the SUV and answer their concerns....

BTW: a moving SUV is a very dangerous weapon, and obviously the weapon of choice at the U. of VA.!

the sting cadre descended on the girls like a pack of wolves. they were frightened and they had no reason to believe plainsclothesmen would target them! I can buy a good looking badge in the toy department of target! They reacted fearfully and a few wolves were grazed by the vehicle, while the girls were dialing 911. I would not have stepped out of my car under such conditions. You want me to respect authority? Behave in a methodical and respectful manner when approaching me to ascertain if a crime has indeed been committed. There was NO probable cause (although our freedoms have been weakened on that score as well). WHAT ARE THEY TEACHING IN COP SCHOOL ANYWAY???
    I am blonde.

Drawing your weapon over a suspected 6-pack of beer? Ridiculous!

Chapman stood by the agents' decision to file charges, citing faith in a process that yielded an appropriate resolution.

This is an example of political intimidation. The morons who drew their weapons were not professional either. In my personal experience, I was trained to only draw a firearm after numerous levels of de-escalation methods didn't work. The firearm is the last tool to use.
These morons also drew their firearms KNOWING the young women were UNARMED on a college campus (Communist Enclave). I believe it would be highly unlikely these same cowards would have done such a stupid move off-campus where the playing field is level (i.e., conceal carry).
These women have legal recourse and they should pursue it fully.
