Independence Day in the Gulch

Watching the news today, it's easy to find reason for despair. Do not lose hope. The ideas our country was founded upon are the strongest in the history of mankind. And, our Republic is still worth fighting for.

Tomorrow, we will take a moment to remember who we are, where we've come from and how we got here. We are proud to be Americans and we will wave our flags high.

"If you ask me to name the proudest distinction of Americans, I would choose–because it contains all the others–the fact that they were the people who created the phrase ‘to make money.’ No other language or nation had ever used these words before; men had always thought of wealth as a static quantity–to be seized, begged, inherited, shared, looted or obtained as a favor. Americans were the first to understand that wealth has to be created. The words ‘to make money’ hold the essence of human morality." - Francisco d'Anconia

From all of us at Atlas Shrugged, have a happy and healthy 4th of July.

The thought of independence must continue to be guiding light for people of vision. Your efforts with Atlas Shrugged will keep the fire alive. When you complete Part III, keep the dream of independence alive by creating a sequel to Atlas Shrugged, the creation of a new society based on the principles of personal responsibility and the value of the individual...

I watched my parents save money, we had to do chores we did not get an allowance, I babysat at 12 to earn money for special occasions, but most of it went into savings. It is so discouraging to see people in charge be so greedy, dishonest and out right steal from anyone. I loved Ian rands philosophy . I read all her books in college and based my research paper for politcal sci class. I have said this so much I wish I could find a place without this group running this country. If I could dig up the founding fathers I would. This country is not run by us. We lost total control after Reagan and maybe as far back as FDR. Now votes go into a computer which is owned by supporters of the group in charge. And before this farce the famous electoral college. This slays me. The vote in our state came down to the mayor who was one of the electors she was for Hillary so her choose was it. How then does my vote count. If you have a map to the gulch I would love to move there.

    What she said!

Progressive ideology can be replaced by a sign: Fascism--10 km.

Keep the faith, and keep coming here!

....then you now understand progessivism! Congrats! :) lol It might seem like a wasted 4 hours, but now you can use it to argue your points. I think part of the reason why so many (including just about everybody I know) avoid having any kind of real discussion about ANYthing these days is because they can't explain their beliefs, or why they are against anything either for that matter, without resorting to emotional retorts. So it's good to have the tools to explain it all well.

I spent 4 hours last sunday trying to understand the progressive philosophy, all I came up with was fascism. After that I noticed AS part 2 was on netflix, so I watched it. It offered such a breath of relief I decided to participate in this web sight; which is something I've never done before. I owe my thanks to you. I took my kids to AS part 1 in the theatre; we'll be sure to see 3 as soon as it comes out. The create wealth quote is genius, it can't be accomplished without freedom first, Happy 4th.
    Sincerely, Thank You.

    John,
Thanks for keeping the Atlas Shrugged faith. But for me, July 3th is and has been for years a day of mourning, not celebration. Mourning for the death of liberty in this country and the fascist system that was started by the dictator Lincoln and kicked into high gear by the FDR. Funny how the death of these united states was started by a senator from Illinois and will be finished by one.

Thank you, John, for sharing the Wright house drawing and Ayn Rand's letter to him. I, for one, would love to see it built and be a memorial to Rand, The Fountainhead, and Wright. A museum/library, or perhaps your very own office? It need not be in Connecticut. Looking forward to the release of ASIII. Thank you for your unflagging passion in making the movie a reality. It may well be an antidote to our cultural rot.

    By the way --

"You lose, and my guess is your reference to Oxford is fallacious too."

Nope. Got it right in front of me. Consult your local library if you don't happen to own a copy of the OED already. Which -- well, you know, what Rand reader would? It's too full of actual fact.

"C_S, if you are trying to make a case for these communists in DC, you have failed."

Which of course posits the question: is it reading Ayn Rand that gives people like "PatrickHenry1234" such terrible reading comprehension, or is terrible reading comprehension a prerequisite for being an Ayn Rand fan?

    Agreed.

Not to mention indentured servants, who were prominent in the early Colonies, and were always white. This is understood as no more than slavery, since the law prohibited these servants from any freedom not afforded by the owner of the indentured contract.

I agree. Slavery has a long and horrible history. I took the following from Wiki: "Slavery can be traced back to the earliest records,
such as the Code of Hammurabi (c. 1760 BC),
which refers to it as an established
    institution." The link is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of...

The colonists didn't have anyone telling them that the institution was evil. Yet there were Aboltionist in the north who eventually ended the practice.

No, I am not talking about an afterlife or next world. I am talking about a new beginning in this world during my lifetime that can happen when we are no longer fighting all the symptoms that can not be defeated until the disease is put to death. America is infected with a deadly disease. Death must come to put to death the disease that America is infected with and release the death sentence so she can live.

I have reread this awesome book and can not get out of Chapter 7. Amazing what you hear when you dare to think.

I love Ayn Rand's ideas but I also don't follow it to a tee. I believe there is room for Ayn Rand and Christ. Both can teach us lessons in life!

John: Cheers to you as we celebrate July 4th. I'm busy preparing to direct my first feature film, which we will shoot in Texas this fall. Barbara and Nathaniel both asked me to see if next time you're in LA I can get us all together for dinner. They want to talk with you, and I do too. Kerry O'Quinn austexk72@gmail.com
