Although Mr. Peikoff doesn't reach the same conclusions I do about what the attitude of Christmas should be, I think his resolve is similar to most who are frustrated by the "elephant in the room" which is that Christmas is really "Christmas" to almost all in the US.

Christmas has become "Christmas," and is no longer Christmas and hasn't been for ages now.

The culture of the US has become more and more consumer oriented and less and less thoughtful (thoughtful in the way that thinking is held in high regard vs. feeling and materialism).

I agree that the "elephant in the room" should no longer be ignored and we should have two references to this time of year: 1) Christmas as it should be which is a celebration that the Messiah, Emmanuel, came and was born as promised by God the Father since right after Adam and the Woman fell so that man, if he believes in the Savior, will have eternal life; 2) Commercialas which is as most people really act this time of year and stop pretending and "nodding to God" resulting in people making themselves miserable by trying to acknowledge something they live like doesn't exist the other 364 days of the year.

In the article, Peikoff notes how Santa only gives to the good and not the bad. I think you are seeing something in the holiday that doesn't exist.

Ah Christmas. A wonderful time of the year where children everywhere are taught to expect free gifts from some magical man from the north pole but in reality, other people always pay for them.

These children then then grow up as adults expecting free gifts from this thing called government but in reality, other people are always forced to pay for them.
