I can't believe all that hard work in negotiation, deal making, back slapping and "save the planet" was a fraud. Really. Well...a little bit of fraud....
Indeed, I do remember that little adventure, and the fact that when it was revealed, no one even cared...one of my first wake up moments to the Big Lie....

When the viros exploited the "spotted owl" as an "endangered species" to lock up the forests in the Pacific Northwest one of their leaders was caught on tape saying "if the spotted owl didn't exist we would have to invent it".
Yep, and incredibly sad how a small group can run away with a huge amount of money, based on a barrel full of lies and misinformation. It even masks the fact that there may really be a climate change issue, but not due to man, it's something else, like the big yellow ball, or even changes in air currents, sea currents, mushroom growths...but not man. Man is too puny to have a big impact, except in ancillary ways, like cutting down huge swathes of trees and such, but even then, it would probably be a small blip.
Excellent point both of you. ewv is right on with "we have to be saved from them" comment, as it has permeated into everything, and anything, and is a common excuse for a lot of power grabs. And it was never about CO2....

There wasn't any agreement. They couldn't come to an agreement so they replaced it with a non-enforceable pledge from each country to say what it would do, if anything. If anything happened from that at all it could only be a net flow of assets out of advanced nations in a fit of guilt and, in the case of Obama, deliberate self destruction of the country as he operated on behalf of the takers and the hysteria. This is what they mean by "save the planet".
The theme of this article was known before they ever signed the phony 'accord' -- they were all squawking that it wasn't enough to have the effect they wanted. But they had to table that when Trump cancelled the whole sham while with grand hand-wringing they blamed destruction of the planet on Trump's dumping Obama's destructive giveaway. We need to be saved from the irrational climate hysteria and its obvious dishonesty, irrationalism, and politics.
The important part of the Paris accords was the "Green Climate Fund" where the designers had a pipe dream that the developed countries would give them a slush fund of $100 billion a year to hand out to assist developing countries in adaptation and mitigation.
Of course there wasn't remotely that much money put into the fund, Obama only promised 3 billion and Trump stopped the last 2 billion from being handed over.
It does explain the popularity of the accord in the developing world. It was never about CO2 it was about cash and power.
