Why poverty in Eden?

The economy is roaring along. Thanks to Trump and his use of Capitalism's tenets we are truly the wealthiest nation in the world. Is it not obscene that there are places in , let's say New York ,that make Soweto look like Beverly Hills. We have had ineffectual poverty programs and still there is a desolation that seems to be tolerable because of some unspoken conviction of futility. "The poor will always be with us," but nobody uses such words any longer. They use code words instead, such as 'structural' and 'behavioral' as long as the middle class is doing fine. Not one penny should be spent on foreign aid until those who live in say, East New York are made to have the opportunity to get education and training without fear of retribution.

In an objective sense, we have eliminated much of poverty. Our 'poor people living in shacks' are better off than the chief of a Paleolithic village. Agamemnon could not eat ice cream. The poor people of the future will live in mansions, but will still be poor relative to the rich people. It is all a question of technology.

Now, that being said, I agree with the other posts on this page about the misappropriation of our taxes.

    Great description. Very apt.

Nothing penetrates there. It is a different species.
I am reminded of the sci fi films where the only way to eliminate an alien species is to destroy it.

"It is just a shame some of the things that are being seen... " Yes, like turning off a busy highway into my neighborhood behind a car that the passenger window rolled down and all the fast food trash was discarded onto someone's lawn. What the hell is the matter with so many people these days?

"The whole damn system is up-side-down, where vice is rewarded and virtue is forced to pick up the tab." Couldn't have said it better!

Saw this just yesterday at the supermarket. There was a 20 something man, wearing a security guard uniform riding in a scooter. He would then park it in the middle of an aisle and walk to go get what he wanted and put it in the basket. I wanted to take a picture and make him famous on social media, but didn't need the hassle that may have brought on.

Yes, they are brazenly thick skinned. I'm noticing more and more apparently NOT handicapped young people hopping on the motorized carts and riding around the store shopping as well, using up a scarce resource set aside for the truly handicapped and elderly.

My kid brother copulated with a brood sow on multiple occasions ... resulting in four piglets (two of them were his, two more were of questionable ancestry). The sow lived off the teat of the Wisconsin welfare system. My brother was not much of a class act though ... more than indiscriminate copulation, he was also a drunk and had to be swept off the streets, after having blacked-out, with the county tax-payers picking up the tab for his "clean up operations." The whole damn system is up-side-down, where vice is rewarded and virtue is forced to pick up the tab.

I think that many of them have failed to make the connection between sexual intercourse and child bearing.

There are some persons who, when they find out there are no consequences, are delighted to take advantage.

I find that a sad look and a shake of the head are just as effective. These hominids are usually so thick skinned that nothing short of loud vituperation even penetrates. They are the wild pigs of humanity.

We hear of tax havens overseas, fair share tax schemes, progressive taxation, and loan forgiveness. The critical concept to such slogans relies on equating fairness and balance. Fairness.. is an individual value judgment. Justice is societal, based in philosophical objectivity within and through unique circumstances though not from the "for me / for you" lens. If we want to have a balanced and just system of taxation, we must do away with this insane notion of "fairness" in favor of just tax practices. America ought to be the "tax haven" of the world.

the govt's "war on Poverty" program has spent trillions of dollars on "poverty"...and has succeeded in creating more poverty...Obamacare was not designed to succeed, but to fail. so that govt could call for a total takeover...govt is not the solution...it is the problem...

Very interesting experience. Thanks for sharing. The Maine medical board is likely part of the swamp. Few have health in mind I suspect.

The Dulles brothers are a large root from the tree of evil. Operation Paperclip’s fascists closet Nazi insertation has grown like an invasive species. See anti-fa. How do you take down the world power?
    From within?

I think that most of the parasites today were born into the behavior. Too many brood sows who are having kids solely for the added benefits. These children are raised only knowing how to be "gimme" babies. With the addition of Obama phones and other subsidies, they spend money on tattoos, jewelry and big rims for their cars while they sit on the couch playing their X box and suck off of the public teat.
I would love to see a policy taking money and children away from those who haven't the means to pay for them. There are so many people wanting to adopt children in the USA that they are going to China and Russia for children. Take the children, raise them to understand the value of things and how to work to achieve them. Get rid of the culture that makes idols out of thugs and believe that school isn't cool.
There are so many stories of people who rose above a meager beginning, so it is obvious that with the proper attitude it can be done.

I often wonder if individuals, such as that food-stamp fraud, are born that way or slowly morph into despicable parasites. Perhaps in the good old days (well prior to even the 80's), the parasitic behavioral trait was shown in an unkind light and was to be avoided. In the Age of Entitlement, there appears to be little shame in being a grown child, dependent on The State, possibly with a mind not even remotely acknowledging that on the other end of the parasite is, by necessity, a producer.
