Fox is underwriting a reality show about micro-utopias...in Santa Clarita, CA. Considering our recent discussions on how to improve the US government, I thought this might be of interest.

You know, conscious, you are absolutely right. We need to watch out, now that Capitalism and Freedom are becoming popular again, that the left/libs/socialists/progressives/democrats will co-opt these values, and attempt to persuade the masses that they originated with them!

I don't necessarily think that Fox would swing the bias in any direction. I'm just suspect of anyone calling themselves an objectivist and wanting to be on a reality tv show about a 'utopia'. ;)

You are more cynical than I am. I would not expect that Fox broadcasting would be unduly biased in favor of a socialist microcosm winning, at least. My contact with reality shows is very limited (I suspect that you have cleverly discerned this already).

I understand the sentiment to _see_ more public examples of rational philosophy, but this could go wrong in so many ways. Not the least of which would be those calling themselves 'objectivists' and being anything but that. Thus, providing more fodder for any anti-capitalism, anti-reason, anti-natural rights talking head.

Like Robbie said, there's not much real in reality programming.

Thank you CarolSeer - It may be oxymoronic, but it would be good publicity.

    A reality show about micro-utopias? Isn't that a oxymoron--a contradiction in terms?

It would be delightful to see a handful of Randists/Objectivists/Libertarians take up the gauge and produce a microcosm of a free society. Especially if this success were contrasted with other groups who based their microcosms on a socialist paradigm.

Hmmm. I'm not sure what to think about this. Unlikely to have sufficient people in the "society" to get a true perspective of the issues dealt with by real societies. On the other hand, this can be manipulated to make collectivist ideologies look appealing.

Besides, there's nothing "real" about reality TV.
