Now it's a pretty expensive one acre ($250,000) but the idea is pretty cool.

LOL!!!!!! I say we go CONQUER them. Sounds like their ideology leaves them lacking on defensive weaponry. We could vanquish them with MEAN TWEETS alone. But, let them crowdfund the desalination plant first.
Remember.... It’s not Who’s going to let us?
It’s Who’s going to stop us?
It is a novel idea. But, not terribly feasible.
Colonizing Sentinel Island in the Indian Ocean would at least give us a habitable island.
However, I hear the locals are very opposed to immigration.

Several Gulchers, including me, have been examining islands and/or (probably and) small cruise vessels. Islands off of Belize like this one are the most affordable.

I like the idea of acquiring an island in this way.

It's fine to criticize the ideology of those involved, but I'm celebrating their action: they wanted something and went out and got it. And they used their own money to do it rather than looting it from others.

I didn't say I supported the ideals of those involved, but I do have to congratulate them on using their own money to go after their own dreams.

No question that one acre isn't going to support more than one-two families. But it is an example of someone following their goals with money to create their own utopia - whatever that might be. How many can say the same?

One acre island? Not in my Play Book! My home in the city sat on a full acre.

From the article: "We plan to use our island paradise to forward our own ideals of democracy, inclusion and sustainability." Now, where have I heard that word salad before?
