Uh oh...I'm siding with the Democrats on something...
Unless I’m misreading the attached article, as things currently sit the government will shut down on October 30 because Dems won’t support the current Continuing Resolution passed by the Republican House. Dems aren’t supporting the CR because it includes (for approximately the 30th time in the last 7 years) an extension of the National Flood Insurance Program.
Now, maybe I’m missing something, but since the government can’t actually MAKE its own money (yes it can print it, but that’s not the same thing), any money it gives to anyone must be stolen from you, me, and the other taxpayers. So, in another case of robbing Peter to pay Paul (or, in the more popular vernacular, “wealth redistribution”), I am paying for part of someone else’s flood insurance so he can get a mortgage on a house.
Why the hell should I have to pay for someone else’s homeowner’s insurance? Nobody helped me pay for mine; why the hell should I have to carry the financial burden of a second insurance policy for a property I will never be able to use or enjoy?
So that’s why I find myself in the Dem’s corner on this one: I would like to see the NFIP stripped from the current Continuing Resolution that has been approved by House Republicans.
And when I realized that I was siding with the Dems, I felt sick.
Am I wrong? Should all of us be paying for a very specific benefit that only a VERY small number of people can utilize and derive any benefit from? Or am I right in believing that if you can’t afford your own insurance, then you can’t buy that house?

Having read all the Gulcher comments, I just felt moved to bottom line opine.
Me dino also feels to state that I do not respond to any contributions that goes straight to the GOP. Why? I'm forced to pay taxes.
I do itemize with a variety of charitable causes?
Why? To deduct from taxation by sending money to needful honest things that I know what the hell I'm paying for!
For example, I give far more to Tunnels To Towers than that measly $11 a month they ask for. Also IMO, Bible spells it out that giving money to help persecuted Jews in their own terrorized Israel is kinda like buying a ticket to Heaven. I'm not perfect. Are you?
I know someone up in a town about 30-40 miles north of Cincinnati who bought a house up in that area, on a relatively flat terrain, and she and her husband were offered the federal flood insurance. They debated it, and finally decided to get it, and within about 2-3 months of when they moved in, there was a big rain storm or something that caused water levels to rise, and it got into their house, and flooded the first floor, made a total mess out of the place, but that flood insurance covered it and it was all restored back to the way it was originally. So for them it was a good thing.
I guess I can understand people resenting their tax money paying for someone else's insurance claims, but if they were the ones in that position, I would like to hear what they would have to say about it then.
Besides, all the "money" we are using in this country these days is just "funny money" created out of thin air by the Federal Reserve anyway, so it isn't like anyone's real money was being used for it.
When the democrats SHUT the government down, I BEG YOU to agree. And to protect the Military paychecks, making them last longer.
Please Declare 3 things.
1) Permanent Layoffs of as many Govt Employees as possible.
2) Congress and the Senate SHALL NOT get back pay for the time the government is shut down, nor shall their staff get paid. And AGREE that YOU will not get paid either! (heads will pop)
3) Declare that there will be a 90 Day UNPAID LAYOFF period after the shutdown in which ALL government employees will have to re-apply for their jobs. And if they can't be fully interviewed and vetted in that time, they lose their jobs.
Declare this before the Dems have a chance to vote. And make it clear to everyone. They KNEW what they were asking for, and they asked for it.
OH, and that includes ALL Federal Judges. And any Federal Judge who attempts to WORK during this time will be Arrested and Detained until the government is back to work!
He will start shutting waste, no one will notice, and then the demon-rats will have to explain why it was important.
I, for one, though, will never vote for a Democrat again, for any reason, and I think the MAGA republican platform is usually the best option.
"Trump is NOT compelled to shut anything he doesn't want"
That is the key, imo, Thor.
If the entire gov was shutdown the effect on the economy would be enormous.
That should not be so, but thanks to the D.C. parasites exceeding their powers for a century, it is so.
I'm for a selective shutdown and firing based on what Trump has promised being imposed on the parasites.
So, you don't want to pay for someone's flood insurance (can hardly blame you), but you are okay with paying for transgender surgeries for illegal immigrants? (That is how it was presented to me, so it could be hyperbole, and likely does have a big component of hype.)

Separately, this time, Trump is NOT compelled to shut anything he doesn't want, including new start programs, because of the continuing resolution.

I favor shutting down government until ALL the parasitic political spending is cut out and made illegal forever.
