When you love your work...

...they'll eat you up. I'd like to say that I just "finished" a 55-hour work week. But, I brought home some work for the weekend...which I won't touch again until Monday. I love what I do. There's an obvious shortage of people with my expertise (that's not bragging...I'd joke that I'm "special"...). Working for a global corporation. There seems to be zero consideration given to the limits of production that can be squeezed out of somebody. Zero. 99% of opportunities are bid on. Augmenting staff is an afterthought. Since being with them for two years I've brought on two excellent young engineers. It's been an interesting experience. Any other Gulchers ever experience this? Not complaining...because I'm in control. But, I see it as unsustainable. Many of my coworkers are as Ayn Rand described James Taggart...not healthy looking. They send work emails at 10pm on Sunday nights. They set up projects with three big meetings per week - they love meetings. They get upset over stuff they shouldn't be upset about...like good news. Very strange. If I continue this work it'll soon be as an independent consultant. Or...I'll go sweep at my rentals and tend bar in a local historic old cowboy town part time. Some of the bartenders there actually work in the brothels for their day jobs...how old-school west is that?
