Calibration of Elo touchscreens are very easy to configure incorrectly. When you run calibration it will ask you to touch 5 spots on the screen. If you touch above or below the 5 spots than that will affect future touches in the reverse direction.

Given that the machine clearly shows an X over the selection anybody with half a mind will see that the touch was off. If he touched a tad lower the second check mark would have been checked.

I volunteer to be a polling place worker... I can see some "action-driven" worker with ulterior motives making sure that defective machines like this stay in service... others of us, OTOH, would have no problem killing that defective machine - even if it changed all the Dem voted to Libertarian.
