Idiots tried to mess with Sheriff Clarke

These morons didn't know that the interstate highways are the responsibility of the MKE county sheriff - David Clarke - and not the Milwaukee police. He gave them no quarter and arrested 70+.

Look for riots in Milwaukee in the coming days as the DA has finally (8 mo's later) come to the conclusion that the police officer did not commit a crime in shooting Dontre. It is sad that this happened, but not a crime.

Um, you're misconstruing a libertarian. Libertarians (small l, not the political party) believe in both fiscal and social liberty. NOT anarchist, as there does need to be some social structure - police, courts, military, property rights - but so long as you aren't harming others, you should be left to your own decisions/actions.

I guess when I think of a conservative, I think of one who is both socially AND fiscally a conservative. Having only one side of the coin (fiscal) makes them a libertarian.

(I'm not even sure you could HAVE someone who was socially conservative, yet fiscally liberal - those values just don't jive at all...)

If people ran on philosophy and values, there would be no need for the party monikers at all. ;) Those just facilitate the funding...

Hamilton had been visited by police twice that same day (both times by pairs of officers). This officer (a single officer car) received another call to get him out of the park. He had his baton stripped from him and used on him. He emptied his weapon in under 3 seconds.

What isn't made known is that the officer was subsequently fired from the police force, not for the shooting but for conducting the pat down in the first place. That is questionable and is likely to be overturned by the police commission.

I like the fact that the family is protesting. I like the fact that the family is making a point of protesting peacefully. This is a healthy sign of freedom. I do not have to agree with them but I certainly would want the ability to do this if I disagreed with something the authorities had done.

Crowding onto the freeway was not within the bounds of 'peaceful protest'. They were arrested. So far, everything that happens is OK.

Insofar as Hamilton himself was concerned, he was said to be known to be mentally disturbed. Something went wrong here. Should not the cop have had a buddy working with him? Hamilton grabbed the cop's baton and started beating him with it - that is a significant assault. If that had not happened, this would have ended differently - and better for all concerned. So the 'room for improvement' I see is that this situation should have been handled better by the pro's - the police.

Yes. And there used to be a lot of them. Sheriff David Clarke runs on the Dem ticket in MKE county since he would get next to zero votes in the city of Milwaukee if he ran as a Rep. But make no mistake, he is as conservative/libertarian as they come.

You want to confuse Dem with Liberal/Progressive. That's the case with probably 99.5% of all D's, but not all. And Sheriff Clarke is a shining counter-example.

I've voted for such Dems in the past. Had a county DA down in Burlington IA who ran as a Dem, had to in that county. Wasn't as conservative as Clarke, but was certainly no liberal/progressive.

I'm not a reactionary voter. I look at the actual philosophy/policy advocated by the candidate and vote based on that, not some label. I wish more voters did the same. If they did, I think we would have gotten rid of a good portion of the Dems already.

Well, Milwaukee has been a place you don't go since before I left Wisconsin in 1976. Downtown was a place you avoided after dark. In Stevens Point where I lived we had some students from Milwaukee and some of them had problems adjusting to small town America, so most decided to go back there. The one that stands out for me in that I played basketball with him, is Terry Porter. I joined the Navy in 1980 and went to Great Lakes for school, there were always issues with the sailors going to Kenosha, Racine and Milwaukee because the drinking age was 18 back then, Illinois was 21. Since I was on Shore Patrol and knew the area, I got to do the runs to pick up the now sober sailors from lockup. Being from small town Wisconsin, a lot of relatives moved to Milwaukee and Chicago or Minneapolis for jobs, so I have visited those places many times. Sorry to see this happening there but it was inevitable. I believe we will see more situations like this in the big cities of the Midwest, thinking Chicago, Gary, Joliet, South Bend, Toledo, Lansing, Detroit and others. All places with high unemployment and high crime rates

Not being intentionally facetious, but is there such a thing as a "conservative Dem" ? More importantly - could such a juxtaposition of values get enough funding to win an election?

They haven't even started digging. We're still trying to get it killed. Gov Walker successfully killed the train between MKE and MAD.

I used to work in that building.

The Dontre Hamilton shooting went down like this. Twice earlier in the day he had been checked by other police officers and told to move on. Finally, the last officer to check him attempted to do a pat down, had his baton stolen from him, and Dontre started to beat him with it. The officer, fearing bodily harm/death, emptied his weapon at the threat. The DA played a tape of how long it takes to do so, and it was just over 2.6 seconds.

Particularly when the sheriff has responsibility for the freeway in the county. And David Clarke is just nearly as strict as Joe Arpio. I hope he runs for Mayor. As a conservative Dem, he has a chance to win and actually make a difference for Milwaukee.

Too bad more cities don't have a David Clark. If Clark ran for mayor maybe Milwaukee would be a better place. I limit my trips to downtown Milwaukee. I go to an occasional play, Buck Game, Concert and get my hair cut, maybe a restaurant like Benihanna's but that's it.

Bad traffic is planned for you! The same thing happened when Minneapolis and St Paul started Light Rail transit. Isn't yours about to become functional? "Encouraged" ridership.

All lives matter and I'm not apologizing for that somehow being PC racist like someone recently in the news felt she had to.
Not only am I getting disgusted by this protesting fad, I'm wondering if it is actually encouraging some black felons to resist arrest.
Hey, mister nobody for a loser, want to be famous?
Hit a policeman with his own stick.
    See what happens next.

I don't care how much you think your cause needs to be advanced, stand on the sidewalks! Standing in the middle of the road is an invitation to get run over IMO.

The difference between this black guy and some other guy is that some other guy was not sleeping in the park, did not resist arrest and did not beat a police officer with a billy club.

Did I read 14 rounds of .40? The guy must've been on PCP, or the officer felt like making a point.

I drive that stretch too, ~1/month going to our office on 30th street. Near the old Eaton HQ. Lovely area. I've been solicited just twice!

After all the construction from the airport through Milwaukee, why, why is morning traffic sooooo bad?!?
