For those of you who said "got any pics?" and I boringly gave you the name of the company, here is a photo of their scale bra. First you make a bra with rings, and then you hang scales on the rings.
now you can't none of you say I never showed you anything.

I just looked again and realized that I had shown you all the kit! and it's cheap! Their instructions are very good.
Not to saw I won't try it - I think I need a scale bracelet. A REALLY butch one - just for practice, of course.

    you're very welcome!
The Ring Lord doesn't sell them, that photo was from their gallery. I have never made one, as you see in my post to nma, but I'm willing to give it a try. There are lots of instructions floating around the maille world. Anyone who is the LEAST bit handy but QUITE strict about quality control could probably make one.
Look around The Ring Lord's site and their scales - beautiful!

Wendy said in an interview, referring to a Red Sonja look-alike contest she entered, "Richard helped me by going to a factory and finding 500 solid steel, quarter-size disks in which he drilled holes, and I made the chain mail bikini out of that. So during the contest, I was the only Red Sonja that clanked, so it sounded like real armor."

Just like the commoners who discovered that butted mail, and even riveted mail, will part when hit with a small, quickly-moving object [like a bodkin-pointed arrow], I think they would not be protection in that way. Use a very well-polished aluminum scale, and enough people, and you might blind your enemy?

I know that they have silver-plated scales, and sterling, fine silver and silver-plated rings. I think they have various kinds of gold rings, but no gold-plated scales. The do some nice engraving, tho...

Why bother? Because your enemy is so sex-starved that they are paralyzed by the sight, and you can just mow them down, of course!
I avoided 300 because a number of my students saw it and all had bad reviews.

Things haven't changed much, have they? Except then, the scales were probably steel, not aluminum, so it was all heavier.
Thanks for the first photo, in particular.

I know you can get silver-plated scales, but I don't think they do gold-plated. They do a very nice gold COLOR, and a lot of cool laser engraving.

answers: that's why you line it with silk or leather.
If you use aluminum, it's not much colder than bare skin - until the aluminum cools off. The rings the scales hang from are usually steel and you would know better than I which heats up/cools down faster.
Yes. But the "what are you smuggling?" questions are short.

I've never made one, but there are lots of instructions around and I'm willing to give it a try if you want! You should look around at the types of scales they sell - laser engraved and beautiful - and colors. I THINK that, if you choose a light-reflecting color, that they are not much warmer than skin FOR A LIMITED PERIOD OF TIME.
I have to tell you, before I bought my first corset, I didn't know where I would wear it either. Since I have discovered that it is the world's best back brace, disguised, I wear them everywhere. Yes, people look.
I will be making an order from The Ring Lord within a month. PM me!

It depends on whether you have welded maille or butted maille - but for either, not very. Just like the commoners found out when they started using bodkin-pointed arrows, a fast-moving small object will break the rings apart.

I immediately thought of Red Sonja, having had my sword and sorcery period of a young reader so long ago. Why even bother with a scale armor bikini?
When I saw the silly 300 flick, I explained to the younger folks with me that Spartans really wore armor back then.
300 was still fun. The even less historically inaccurate sequel was crap and comic for the even more, more, more over the top splashes of blood.

You have conjured up images in my incredibly shrinking brain to keep me up all night. I will not reveal those images as I prefer to stay in my home away from those guys in the little whit coats.

I think I'll have to order one for myself. I've never been to a Comicon, but there are always Halloween parties.
It would work for sci-fi, space alien, Mad Max-ish post-apocalyptic scenarios, and probably more once I give it some thought.
    Thanks, Winterwind!

Most women I know who wear these line them with either silk or chamois. Of course, one did not, and she did not have scales on her maille bikini either. I asked her if she felt self-conscious and she said, "Well. You just have to get used to the fact that the first thing a guy will look at is your nipples." From that moment on, I could not take my eyes off her nipples - and I am Straight! (She was very good looking too; had been a magician's assistant.)
