The Atlas/John Galt cards, part 3.5

I put this same image on my previous post on this, but I moved it so that people could see it better.

This project is one to continue to get the word out widely that there ARE movies, that there IS a book that people should see &/or read.

The previous cards were used in many ways - as an introduction at a gun show, as a bookmark in a random book in the library, as "social cards". My favorite way was to put my name and phone number on the card, tell people to read whichever Rand book I thought might be best for them AND if they thought it was a waste of money, to call me and I'd refund it. I never got any calls, and I did about 40 or 50 cards that way.

LetsShrug passed this project to me, so I will design and order the cards and send them out to you as requested.

This is not a free service [remember where you are]. VistaPrint cards are good quality and very very cheap. I'll ask that you reimburse me and pay the postage.

Feel free to send me possible quotes [you may PM if you you like and are able]. Share possible uses.

I'll be collecting quotes, and then designing a bit, and the order should go in on Wednesday. I'll let you know the INSTANT they come in!

send me quotes!
note ways to use these to spread the word - the best one may win a prize!

as a radical of my acquaintance says,
"We have a world to win."

“If enjoyment is a value, why is it moral when experienced by others, but immoral when experienced by you?... Why is it immoral for you to desire, but moral for others to do so? Why is it immoral to produce a value and keep it, but moral to give it away?”

I didn't mean AS, I meant what we need to write, act or film to get people's attention. Agree AS was kind of near-term SciFi, but is now more like a parallel universe from a common past (or you can readily argue, like my coffee cup, that it is now reality).

“The man who does not value himself, cannot value anything or anyone.”

I am sending this quote to my 22 year old daughter right now. Hopefully she will she will add it to her check-off list of criteria for prospective boyfriends.

I see it more as a mystery/thriller. The original was classified as Sci/Fi because it was timed "in the future." But there was little truly Sci/Fi about it. Even the electric generator is a minor aspect of the story (at most it served as a plot device to get Dagny to follow Daniels to the Gulch, otherwise it was pretty immaterial to the plot).

Science is like magic. That's the angle I'd take. Little like the Khallings. SciFi still sells, and offers the same illustration through amplification of the basic forces that magic does. Piers Anthony illustrated this wonderfully in the Blue Adept / Split Infinity series.

    My favorite AS quotes:
    1) "We do not tell; we show. We do not claim; we prove."
    -Hugh Axton

2)"You've discovered our first rule around here Miss Taggart. One must always see for oneself."
    -John Galt

3)"Justice is the act of acknowledging that which exists."
    -Judge Naragansett

4)"What is wealth, but the means of expanding one's life?"
    -Ellis Wyatt

5)"Achievement is man's highest moral purpose."
    -Francisco D'Anconia

6)"People think that a liar gains a victory over his victim. But what I've learned is that a lie is an act of self-abdication because one surrenders one's reality to the person to whom one lies, making that person one's master, condemning oneself to faking reality."
    - Henry Reardon

    Cheers!

I'd like to flick a few at some zombies' heads as they shuffle in front of my purposeful strides, purposeless.

Yeah, unless the book is about Vampires, or magic, or terrorists, you are unlikely to get younger readers to take on 1100+ pages.

Thanks for taking this on Winter. I set a card holder on the counter of our retail store with Shrug cards in it. Great way to start a conversation. This is my favorite quote
"The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me."
I understand some people would find the book a bit daunting. Do you think the cards should be used more to promote the movies?

I love this concept, but doubt people these days are going to wade through that book. I have a slightly younger friend, and English Lit major seeking to be a teacher, that is vehemently against government intrusion (shocking huh). I told him to read this book, and even this guy, a strong reader, inspired to learn about these concepts struggled and lamented finishing the tome. Normal people are not going to make it.

I was hoping the movie would succeed and allow a broader range of people to view the concepts, but it (particularly III) are not going to have very wide appeal, even with our hawking of it.

"It is Still Mine" is a movie that can catch the leftie's off guard.

I guess I have to have some of these for my desk at home and work. Perhaps my catch phrase should be "Why do you think the government knows what to do with your resources better than you?"

Another good one is "Everyone in the US lives better than almost anyone in Africa. Have the rich really enslaved the poor or does individual wealth breed wealth and enrich us all?"

    Winter,
    Great idea!
I am a printer and may be able to work something out on these cards to make it easier for people. Pm me specs if interested.

You must learn how to edit; pay money and hire someone, it will be one of the most valuable things you do in your life; learn how to write.
