President Obama announced Sunday that his administration plans to lock up the oil-rich 1.5 million acre Arctic National Wildlife Refuge coastal plain and offshore areas in Alaska from oil and gas exploration.

More energy and job killing land-grabs by our out of touch Dear Leader.

OK folks before I start saying why I see this as a good thing. Please understand that I hate what Obama stands for and nearly everything that he has ever done.

I see this as a way of saving our resources for later. Think about it fossil fuels are a finite resource. Whereas the fiat currency we are spending is essentially an infinite resource. Our money is meaningless beyond what everybody agrees that it is worth. Eventually countries in the middle east will run out of oil. Then we can start drilling in those areas we are currently holding off limits.

Essentially if you have all the oil and all the food you can have all of whatever you like.

Obama is an islamic socialist. Once he is out of politics, I think this will come out. I say he did more to hurt black people by his arrogance than he helped them with freebie giveaways. Good Riddance.

I read that native Alaskans are all for drilling. I'll bet!
Some industry moving in may provide a block to have a store on--never mind just having a store on one of those.

I've read about those "mosquitoes by the billions" way up north.
They've been known to run a moose to death.
Oil company geologists better wear protective suits and headgear.

“Just like Yosemite or the Grand Canyon, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is one of our nation’s crown jewels"
That's a monarchist dictatorship statement if I ever heard one.
A republic has no "crown jewels", nor has it any need for them.
Wasn't the American Revolution fought to throw off the shackles of monarchist dictatorship forever?

Actually Madetc, we do have to worry about that. Political deals are all about trading favors. If the Republicans can work a deal to can ACA or Immigration and the price (of not having it vetoed) is voting for the above sequestration, they might go for it.

Don't think we need to worry much about this one. If you read the article, you'll see this phrase: : "Obama has asked congress to....."

Congress isn't going to do anything Obama asks it do.

I do lots of business in Alaska. the only thing in the ANWR area other than oil is mosquito"s by the billions. NOBODY ever goes there for exploring etc.
we should send 0 there in july without a t shirt. he will last 2 hours because the mosquito's will have consumed all of his blood, and he should have some of his friends with him as well.

It is the intent of Obama and his "Progressive" fellow travelers to establish a new aristocracy managed by a self proclaimed "intellectual elite".

Of course he wants to grab the land. He looks forward to a future in which no person, save an LEO, an active-duty military service member, a VIP like him, a very carefully selected chauffeur, or a bodyguard goes anywhere near an automobile.

It is time for Alaska and Texas to consider secession. Obama and his fellow travelers are intentionally destroying the country and there is no reason for the states to be a part of it.

Feudalism is alive and well. Its great to be the king! At some point the peasants will become weary of the taxes and edicts and will revolt. History does repeat itself.

I bet she has been there. She grew up in Alaska. She is the daughter of Atz Kilcher from the "Alaska the last frontier" show. She us not part of the show, but sings the theme with her father.

I enjoy our discussions, too, O.A. At this point, I am just trying to survive until early 2017.

“The promises made to us at statehood, and since then, mean absolutely nothing to them,” Murkowski said. “I cannot understand why this administration is willing to negotiate with Iran, but not Alaska. But we will not be run over like this. We will fight back with every resource at our disposal."
Obama may have found an issue that will unite Democrats and Republicans...In Alaska at least.

    Hello jbrenner,
Always such a pleasure to talk to you. I thought it noteworthy that these announcements (like their document releases) are always timed for Friday nights or at least over the weekend so as to avoid as much scrutiny as possible.
I hope the States all band together. This behemoth must be stopped.
    Regards,
    O.A.

“Just like Yosemite or the Grand Canyon, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is one of our nation’s crown jewels and we have an obligation to preserve this spectacular place for generations to come,” Jewell added. I guess Secretary of the Interior Jewell has never been there. This area is a vast permafrost wasteland.

People forget that before she became governor of Alaska, the "Mama Grizzly" (Sarah Palin) was in charge of the Bureau of Natural Resources for the State of Alaska, and ran it quite well.
