What is the purpose of Galt's Gulch online?

"Our sole relief were the rare occasions when we could see one another. We found that we liked to meet- in order to be reminded that human beings still existed. So we came to set aside one month a year to spend in this valley- to rest, to live in a rational world, to bring our real work out of hiding, to trade our achievements- here, where achievements meant payments, not expropriation. Each of us built his own house here, at his own expense- for one month out of twelve. It made the eleven easier to bear."
That's what Galt's Gulch online means to me.

    Hello Mamaemma,
A breath of fresh air... a life saver thrown to one drowning in the sea of statists.
    Regards,
    O.A.

I disagree, wiggys3... it's not LACK of 'education,' it IS the "education" they've gotten, where it comes from, why it persists and why 'they' can't figure out that the basic logic behind it is erroneous!

"It's complicated," to use the recent catch-phrase.

As I've said dozens of times, here and elsewhere...
"An electorate stupid enough to put O in the WH _twice_ is clearly dumb enough to put Hillary in The Big Chair, too..."

No, I'm not encouraging that... it scares the hell out of me... I just observe the shit going on and try to set my own expectations accordingly. That helps, even if just a little. Better than being totally surprised when the votes are tallied.

I'm here because back in 2008 when you know who was elected the only thing I could think about was, what the hell just happened? Then with 2012 I'm thinking we're doomed. Then a couple of years later I read AS and find you guys here. I keep coming here because I'm really curious as to the why of things. And it's interesting too.

In "the Magic Story" the main character admonishes us that we are know by the company we keep. We should therefore, seek the companionship of the energetic and wise. Chumming around with boozers and laggards will bring you down.(paraphrased)

IMHO this is very good company to be associated with.

I live in Los Angeles. I think that pretty much answers the question.

I think there is the potential to make this a lot more than a site for objectivists to comment and commiserate on the news of the day. This could be the gateway to a Galt's Gulch that is hiding in plain site, not in a valley behind a ray screen, but hidden within the noise all around us. Imagine an underground market for exceptional products (like residential radar), services (like really secure communications) and ideas (that nobody would want to discuss in a public forum), things that can't be found in any big box store or online retailer. Consider an alternative financial system that runs on credits (value traded for value) or something else that holds more value than our paper dollars. What would it take to build a shadow society, that is still standing when the one in which we currently live gives up the ghost? Just think about it...

I live in Pleasant Grove which borders to the north of Hueytown (sometimes only Hueytown is on a map ha! ha!). Both cities border the west side of Birmingham. I'll be driving to Hoover on the south side of Birmingham in 15 or so minutes.
I won't give my phone number here but I will give my email address.
Seems every conservative cause has it with their hands out--plus hucksters who just might as well say when Obama destroys the world you'll wish you bought my product.

I found an Ayn Rand Meet-Up in Seattle. You might check it out. Also, I found two harsh denigrations, one a theater performance.

(Never been to Seattle; been to Portland.)

The reason they vote as they do is lack of education as has been discussed here many times. Do to their lack of knowledge these people do not know how to reason, so they get what they deserve and we have to suffer with these results.

And we can go around finding other producers and getting them to shrug.

Emotionally, its a great thing. In practical terms, i doubt it really does a lot. Even in Atlas Shrugged, the only thing that convinces people to give up statism is when it crashes. Talking about it before the fact doesnt seem to be very effective, even in Rand's novels.

Yes, indeed we can shrug, at least until the Rulers use their "laws" to put us in straight-jackets. Yet all of us should shrug -- all 2%, that is!

I come to the Gulch to learn - and I learn something new each day. I thirst for knowledge and this is the vehicle. This is the one place I find a moment of sanity in an otherwise insane world. It is refreshering to know there are others who think and act as I do. Ben C.

I fully agree with the philosophical principles of Ayn Rand, but all can see that this is going nowhere useful.
"Who is John Galt?" hits hard and clear... the best of the series, but let's face it, we'll never see that happen.
The only way of escaping this trip is by refusing to support the beast, and getting rid of all GOVERNments of Force and their Rulers. This will hopefully occur during the coming Great Collapse. We see that "voting" for our Rulers doesn't work... never has. But based on vote2012, 98% of the voters accepted continuing tyranny. GO FIGGER!

You're great, NealS. I live in the deep South, where most people are conservative, but almost noone has ever heard of Ayn Rand. So I cherish the people in the Gulch
