I haven't seen this guy for a while. Still at it and still finding people who will sign a petition for anything.

    Just leave it to the kind of people who populate Galt's Gulch to make fun of this worthy effort to spread illiteracy. I have long been illiterate and have nothing but sympathy for those trying to achieve illiteracy. Shame on anyone who disparages this worthy aspiration. However, the joke will be on them. Judging by the sales figures for my books, illiteracy is on the march across the US, and I foresee its complete triumph. BTW, I posted this video on my SLL website, and my books, for those trying to increase their illiteracy: The Golden Pinnacle and The Gordian Knot, both available on Amazon as books and ebooks (TGP is also a Nook book).

      As anyone who can read your posting can see you sir are an abject failure. You have a long way to go to achieve your illiterate goal and I fear that, short of some massive head trauma, you may never be able to achieve the end you desire. So, my advice would be for you to accept reality and learn to live with the failure that you are.

    The frightening thing is that illiteracy is becoming functionally credible, thanks to technology. Voice recognition apps make it possible to create text messages to send to others, who listen to the voice translations, and then respond by using their own voice to text apps. Reading text is quickly becoming a lost art, and I have no doubt that literacy will not be required to advance in our public education system. Pictographs were a shorthand method of communicating actual events, and script text became a more efficient way of condensing pictographs. However, text may be too specific in transmitting actual concepts for those who would control the masses, when imagery (which can now be falsified and photoshopped) and hysteric propaganda slogans serve the purpose much better. Once it becomes impossible for the people to actually read and absorb intellectual concepts, control is much easier. Fahrenheit 451 may be much closer than we think.

      There was a science fiction book - I want to say Heinlein, but maybe not, in which someone is looking at the comic book to get the instructions for how to fly some small personal vehicle, and his companion said something on the order of "Oh, social curriculum, right?" taking it for granted that the other could not read, and that it was wide-spread - the PTB had discovered that you don't have to read to do all kinds of things, just look at the pictures.
      sarcastic font/there is an easy, annoying and, on this site at least, untrue comment about men, instructions, and pictures. Please note that I did not give in to temptation./

      It started to really get bad with text messaging. Very shortly after text messaging became popular, the texting shortcuts and abbreviations began showing up in emails...even work emails.

      A real shot to the heart for professionalism.

        I was e-mailing back and forth with a rep once trying to solve an issue we had. I straightened it out on my own and e-mailed him to explain that everything was all right. He responded by just sending back the letter "k". Not sure why but that bothered me. Texting is even worse.

          It should bother you. That is not a professional response. My kids get really po'd with me because I insist that they use proper grammar and spelling even in their texts with me. My daughter, now a HS teacher, thanked me over Christmas. Now she is dealing with students and their parents who think that every communication is a tweet.

            and the reply "K" would more appropriately be spelled just " 'k " , shouldn't it?

              If saying the words out loud, it would be P'd O, but the short-hand vernacular is PO'd.

              As for 'k vs k, the current vernacular has become just to say "kay" instead of the overly long two syllable "okay." ;-)

                  It depends on the situation. If I have done something for another, then I may respond with "no problem," as an expression that I was happy to do it, and therefore it was "no problem" (I might also respond with "it was a pleasure"). If someone is merely thanking me for something, then "you're welcome," would be more appropriate. This seems to be very uncomfortable for many people, and you see an increasing number who respond with their own "thank you" instead of the proper "you're welcome." Which drives me nuts. They're thanking someone for thanking them? What's up with that.

                  I'm no grammar Nazi (except with my children, whom I feel the responsibility to educate properly). Rarely will I correct someone here, 'cept in fun (I'll often use speaking vernacular in my posts to convey an informality that one would use with friends), as I consider this our common "house," in which it is poor manners to embarrass guests. B'sides, this damn autocorrect causes as many misspellings as it seems to correct - at least for me.

            I know reps are dealing with many issues at one time but I kept thinking he could have taken a little more time for his response. The building I work in has had a business in it since 1902. I found some of the old records and correspondence in the rafters. I found copies of letters that were amazing. Very professional and direct.

              They likely thought that the sale was lost, so no need to devote any more attention than they did. Unfortunately, they miss that sales is a process of relationships. They may have just lost the opportunity to make the next sale.

      I hadn't thought it thru like that but it is the logical progression of events. The educational system is designed more for control than education so I would expect this trend to accelerate.

    I'm a big fan of Dice's. He has people sign petitions to put gun owners in jail. I think he has even had people sign petitions for infanticide. Americans are for everything and anything. God, we are in so much trouble...so much trouble...

    It's easy to be illiterate. Use PIG Politically Incorrect Grammar. End each sentence with a question mark. Use television as a dictionary. Follow the lead of the leaders. They sign bills into law all the time without reading a word.

    This post is highlighting the need for the 'sarcastic font' lock in the Gulch. Comic Sans comes to mind since it is also the most annoying font by far.

      Oh, there are a couple which are WAY more annoying that Comic Sans. Find Beehive. or Blippo - they're annoying because you can't read them.
      However. As sarcasm is my usual channel, I would like it to be understandable, while still being annoying.

    A number of years ago, one of the finalists for Miss America was asked what her "cause" was.

    "Illiteracy", she replied.

    The host asked: "So, what would you do if you met a person who was illiterate?"

    "Oh, first I would give them a copy of my book...."

    I agree with this guy. I have been fighting a war against personal hygiene for years. This soap and water and perfume business has been dominating our bodies for far too long. It all started when a few cultish persons put forth that the normal odors of the human body were repulsive. A fallacy. This constant cleansing reduces the production of pheromones which as you know, is the aroma that attracts mammals to perform sexually. It is an attempt to decrease the human population and by so doing, turn the earth back to the dominance of the strongest and biggest creatures. If you want to smell perfume, pick a flower. Which by the way, is our rallying cry. Pick A Flower!
