If I see one more article or tv spot about "giving back" I swear I'm going to scream!

It's so obvious that this is a successful attempt to shape what people think is good and admirable. Especially when I see stories about children "giving back". When I was growing up children were recognized for their achievements; now only altruism is lauded.
How much would I give to see even one businessman, sports star, or celebrity say "No one gave me anything. I earned it!"

It is ABSOLUTELY deliberate. And it sickens me. School perpetrate this narrative too.
In kindergarten they have kids bring in a list of school supplies...then they throw them all together and then divy them out. What you brought to class is no longer YOURS...because some kids' parents didn't send any supplies...
When I worked there I openly called it the Socialist Basket... I don't think most that heard me refer to it that way even knew what "socialist" means. Disheartening on all fronts. :( Ignorance runs deep....and is generations deep.

It makes me furious, but it is also teaching our children that self sacrifice is "holy". I think it is deliberate. Have to raise the new generation of socialists!
