"It is also a fact that as peoples standard of living improves they become better stewards of their environment. Capitalism is the best way to improve the standard of living. "
This is true by an unbelievable margin. Just look how people lived in pre-industrial societies.

One of the ways become better stewards of the environment, though, is recognizing problems like this and dealing with them rationally.

"You have your socialist flag flying again today."
This has nothing to do with socialism. It seems like this is appeal to final consequences and staw man. No one likes the problem or measures to deal with it, so we'll deny it. The straw man is socialism, which has absolutely nothing to do with this.

The damage being done by the "solution" is staggering. We have chased away manufacturing plants and they have gone to places like India and China. No doubt the planets air and water quality is suffering as a result. The evidence against man made climate change is more compelling in my opinion. It is also a fact that as peoples standard of living improves they become better stewards of their environment.. Capitalism is the best way to improve the standard of living. All I see in Al Gore and others is a massive scheme to take control of vast amounts of money and resources.

There's a huge political agenda swarming around it because it involves huge costs. It's thorny because we don't know the exact costs of climate change or of measures to prevent it. If the measures reduced global economic growth by even a fraction of a percent, that's literally trillions of dollars over decades or a century, wealth that could be used to deal with the costs of climate change in the future.

Since the costs are in the future and everyone benefits today from burning stuff, everyone wishes the problem didn't exist. That and the uncertainty about costs lead to the political agenda of people refusing to see the facts.

Meanwhile, Boston sets an all-time snow record and ice floes hug the New England coast.

I'm sure that everyone here has heard the expression, "If you wanna know the truth, follow the money". Well, this story started breaking a year or so ago, and might serve to explain why old Al is so passionate about the climate change discussion.

Whenever I consider Gore, I can't help but think of Sinclair Lewis' "Elmer Gantry" - a tent, radio, and television preacher who was a complete sham, even to himself.

The threat that I see is Al Gore. Anyone who refuses to see the facts and works just towards a political agenda is dangerous. I would like to see cleaner air and cleaner water. The best way to do that is thru Capitlism. Al Gore and his minions are Socialists and they have only their special interests in mind.

Exactly! We need to stop pretending that goofs like this even matter any more. To think he was so close to being President.

But, but, but he is an expert. He used to be the Vice President and he won a Nobel Peace Prize. Actually I guess neither means what it once did.

Wishful thinking? The science is not there. Man made global warming is a hoax. Climate Change is real, and has been since long before man could even create fire, much less SUV's.

So, Al Gore - mystic, failed doctor of divinity, traveling apocalypse preacher - is talking in terms of "punishment"?... not surprising.

    On the other hand.

Al Gore - man once referred to as a "crazed sex poodle" - is talking in terms of "punishment"?... not surprising.

I don't think of it as "punishing", but things tend to work out unfavorably for those who persist in wishful thinking in the face of a threat.

The one who should be punished is the nincompoop who invited the looterignoramus and gave him the podium to continue his false prophesy.

You know, if Al Gore was a conservative (kinda makes you want to gag, doesn't it?), the Left would be making the inevitable comparison with the Reichstag Fire. But since he's not, he's being feted as the global savior.

It's all relative to those people...they don't seem to believe in absolutes. Particularly where truth is concerned.
