I have always found the story of the WWI Christmas truce to be fascinating. There is more information out there but this is a brief description.

"Patriotism is easy to understand in America. It means looking out for yourself by looking out for your country."
    - Calvin Coolidge, his predecessor, and far better President.

"Perhaps one of the most important accomplishments of my administration has been minding my own business."
    - Calvin Coolidge

"The business of America, is business" - Calvin Coolidge

“I want the people of America to be able to work less for the government and more for themselves. I want them to have the rewards of their own industry. This is the chief meaning of freedom.

Until we can reestablish a condition under which the earnings of the people can be kept by the people, we are bound to suffer a very severe and distinct curtailment of our liberty.”
    ― Calvin Coolidge

I've smashed them myself. It was more of a dislike, don't want it in my bed thing. If it's outside, leave it alone; in my house, fair game!

Older men declare war, but it is the youth that must fight and die. Herbert Hoover 31st president of US (1874 - 1964)

Well said non mooch. Its hard to say how much the story has been changed over the years but it is still good to see that something like this was possible.

Hatred is not necessarily irrational, nor is good will necessarily rational.

I kill a scorpion, I don't invite it to tea. Hating it makes the killing easier.

If only there were more who found that common ground, and put aside hatred, in all its irrationality.
