Everyone is so focused on the nuclear weapon issue that they're missing the point of this exercise from Iran's point of view. Considering how poor the Iranian economy is now, from the sanctions, they're doing very well in gaining dominance in the Middle East. They may have no intention of proceeding with a nuclear weapon, but they darn sure want those sanctions dropped. Once the money starts to flow back into Iran's economy, they won't need a nuclear weapon to become the dominant force in the Gulf, able to cut off the bulk of the world's supply of oil at will. The nuke threat could be merely a foil to justify their ambitions.

Considering the perfect storm they concocted planting O do you really think either of those rivals would hesitate providing Iran with ICBM-like missile technology? Or perhaps North Korea or Pakistan acting in proxy for Russia or China selling Iran the missiles themselves or the blueprints and technicians to build them.

Yes - when they were "converted" to Islam. The whole region went from being a hotbed of trade and activity (the Silk Road) to being a den of thieves and pirates led by religious zealots. Growing up in NY I remember the cold war vividly. I remember the sirens, hiding beneath my desk, and the teachers nervously telling us it was just an exercise.
