One of the significant statements I saw in the article was the parcel of land was not claimed by either surrounding country. A little hard to believe, right on the Danube. Probably invaded by Attila among others.

Great for tourism, too.
I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that the land itself might be flood prone and need to be raised for productive use.

Probably needs a bit of dredging and reclamation, but a pretty good location for trade and production.
