Self esteem is code for the Good Try Social Promotion crowd. Those that know inside they didn't make a good try. Self Respect is for those that did make a good try and are trying to learn how to make a better try.But esteem is oh so more PC acceptable and respect is a value to be destroyed.

The ex was a school teacher and bought in to that crap. But I noticed if little Tommy couldn't add or shoot a basket there was little followup to train little Tommy unless at home or shooting hoops with friends. Trouble is she's now teaching good try esteem to her third generation and there are precious few at home to tell tommy one many and one many are two manys and one many minus one many are none manys.

Most schools have self esteem but no little if any respect. A case of the government sticking it's nose into an area of rights not granted and proving the worth of those two amendments.

  I agree that what society pushes and what is actually beneficial are two different things. I would also argue that the progressives are trying to hijack and re-brand self-esteem to be "anything they say is positive", which includes a whole host of dependency-driven and destructive behaviors.

    True but it's epidemic and pandemic. So use their re-definition against them. Substitute self respect and characterize self esteem as they saw fit to make it - a dirty word.
    
    Self respect is one you try, fail, learn, improve and try again with or without help.
    
    Self esteem is what you are told to feel when you try, fail and are given a social promotion.
    
    Deep inside people know the difference though they don't learn the outcome until well after school when they wonder why the diploma is held as meaningless and is no longer a guarantee to the working world of anything more than someone looking for a free paycheck to replace a social promotion. Thus feeding the welfare system.
    
    Self respect is when the individual takes responsibility for his or her own success and gets an education despite the best efforts of the public school system to the contrary.
    
    Trouble is the teachers are self perpetuating and other than social sciences come from the bottom rung of the university bound academic ladder - still expecting and in teachers colleges probably getting more social promotions.
    
    It's a generational disease commonly known as dumbing down. all though that word too is distorted and means inability to speak in the same way that blind and deaf meaning unable to see or hear.
    
    Come to think of it maybe dumbing down is accurate.
