Will a private police force work better? Detroit says yes.

I thought this was a very interesting and inspiring video. This private security force in Detroit shows how policing should be done, in my opinion.

AR said that one of the primary responsibilities of government was to protect us from criminals (in addition to adjudicating disputes and to protect us from invasion). Given that the government is failing in ALL of them, (as well as failing at everything else it's butted its nose into) it's probably time for a serious change.

Stossel had a segment dealing with private police and police work contracted out to private contractors. Also, there are other options (a couple of years ago I wrote an article about this) for police in addition to government police.

I like the attitude of the guy in the video, what an awesome business he's started. What gives me the shivers is corrupt individuals doing the same for profit business and boosting their profits with trumped up charges. Just watched an episode of "Leverage" last night where the 'owner' of a private for profit prison was doing just that to 'fill' his prisons (and his pockets).

I saw that movie. Robo-Cop? Now to business since I don't have enough bandwidth to mess with u tube discussions.

What is the cost per police officer and number of police officers per population.

What significant changes in crimes of all categories and crimes by police as well as compared to general population have occured?
(1% is the national average in both groups)

Besides privitization have any other basic changes occured?

Although I am distrustful of anything coming out of Detroit, a private police force can't be any worse than what is going on there. The problem will likely be what to do with the old timers with their pensions and benefits packages. Can you transfer them to the private police? They'll mostly not fit the paradigm.

That is a bright light in a dim room. Good to see that this is happening. I would like this to happen in Los Angeles as well.

Gotcha. I think in the headline, "Detroit" refers to the citizens who live there. The government has failed miserably, but private solutions are working well.

Yes, I did. Actually, I've been following the progress of some for-profit prison companies as well.

I'm just making a facetious comment about Detroit.
