I used to make replica suits of armor as a hobby...but I ruined my hands doing it. Now, I just do a bit of metalwork (like, 15 min) at a time. This is not enough to maintain my skill level, let alone to become more skilled, so my metalworking abilities dwindle.
you must be a good shot with a hammer, Jan! . that technique is tough and tedious.
I have studied CPR several times, but never had to do it in a real situation. . must have been, and still be, rough for you and Chris to remember....... -- j .

True. He had a heart attack at work. Chris and I did CPR and tried to save him, but...
I use a ball peen hammer to work the edge on an anvil. When you use a scythe, you sharpen it all the time (keep a stone in your pocket). Eventually you have abraded away the work-hardened edge - that is when you need to take the blade off and pick up the ball peen hammer.
Now, if we could hack those 50 No. Korean submarines missiles with those parameters they would end up hammering No. Korea. I think given that, would be an acceptable error!
LMAO! Thanks strugatsky! I hadn't seen that before. Oh, how I need to get one of those "differential girdle springs" for one of my own projects here...nyuk nyuk.
ingenious! . I could imagine using an old powered hammer for edge peening. . and even this text editor red-underlines the word peening. . sheesh. . underlined sheesh, also. dumb editor. . anyway, what technique did you use for peen-sharpening??? -- j
p.s. sorry about your friend. . we have only memories for so many. .

I have one dagger, a memento from a friend who died (whilst I was giving him CPR) that is razor sharp. I deliberately keep most of my swords dull (one is sharpish). The other knives I use are clasp knives and camp knives...and my favorite kitchen knife, that I carefully sharpen with a stone and steel.
I have a scythe that I have just peen-sharpened. I really need to hit it with the stone again sometime soon.
we're working on that ... some in the collection will never see any sharpening. . but the Buck 119 is now ready for shaving, for example (there is even a leather strop on the turntable rig). -- j .
will try to work it in sometime ... just now, we're investigating all of the capabilities of the worksharp belt machine plus the turntable machine too. . very interesting. . just wish that I could get the turntable to rotate backwards!!! -- j .

Sorry back at me. I try not to use cant phrases or acronyms, because they often stop me dead in my tracks when I am reading someone else's writing. I do make exceptions for B5 (Babylon 5) and TNG, as you saw.
Looking at clips from B5 yesterday makes me want to go back and revisit that series.
hey, that's a perfect lay explanation of a sort of arithmetic averaging which can be used in control circuits, say, to put an exoskeletal leg in the spot where the human leg is. . it just sounds awful because we're not taking notes and making diagrams!!! -- j .

Good laugh...it's amazing that it works with all that gibberish. LMAO
