It's a pain, but I'm skeptical of proposals unless they explain how it will be simpler. As long as there's an income tax, we have to calculate income, which is where all the complication comes from. Simply having a flat marginal rate does nothing to simplify working out income. Working out income is complicated by issues like which equipment I can count as an expense and which must be depreciated and at what rate.

I am open to the idea that a sales tax might be simpler. I really would like to understand the details, though, because most of it just sounds like people who think they could work the system better under different rules. I want to see that it really can be made easier.

Easy solution. Repeal the unconstitutional 16th amendment, close the IRS, fire all the IRS auditors (and do not hire them for anything else because they are slime for taking the job at all.)

And by all means remember that now the former IRS employees and all the tax accountants have the marvelous opportunity to concentrate on their talents as artists and musicians (because they don't have to worry about losing their health insurance.)

Simply modify it to be in line with Roman or medieval Spanish law...

Any taxes the tax collectors fail to collect... has to come out of their own pockets. That's how Miguel Cervantes ended up in jail....

It would be physically impossible for one man to know the entirety of the tax code in letter and practice. That alone should be enough reason to scrap it.
