Thank you KH. Why is the choice, thumbs up adds to the discussion or thumbs down, this is spam. sometimes I agree and give a thumbs up, but I need to give a thumbs up if I disagree, because it also adds to the discussion?
I don't have to agree with everything you said but if you can take away you should give too. db is a paying customer and new here. I see no issue with him asking questions that open things up for discussion. I did not try to apply my comment to only you unless, I say your name. Thanks for the reply. I gave you a point.
We look forward to hearing all your posts. I was just wondering who is controlling the Post Hidden button. Make sure I do not make that person mad. Certainly don't want to offend someone with so much power.
d-this the kind of comment likely to get a down vote. There is nothing robbie said that discouraged growth of the site. Your criticism is without basis and does not add to the discussion. If you continue in this vein, I guarantee you will lose points. I have been around for awhile. It is common for newbies to come to the site and want to make changes to fit their comfort level. The admins would have to tell you for sure, but the site has been very successful. Overall, there is lots of great content, including your mini-series post. Relax a little and wait awhile
if you are posting nonsense that is one thing. maybe I am too new and have not seen anything out of line. Of course, I watch many networks and then decide.
there are trolls in here all the time. that is one answer. and r, on an Objectivist-based site, there are those who will down vote criticism against Objectivism-especially if they think the reasoning is faulty. This is more likely to happen when it's clear the poster does not sufficiently understand Objectivism in order for the criticism to be valid. I'm sure you've thought the same thing in here when you read comments about Christianity that are incorrect. Usually, those of us who've been around a long time will tell you if they are taking away a point. BUt they don't have to, and assuming you know who is doing it? My experience is you'd be wrong more than right. I rarely down vote. As a matter of fact, if I'm going to give someone comment that I disagree with, depending on how important I find the discussion-I will upvote it. Then it moves to the top of the thread. You are a valued contributor. You will begin to see your point total moving up quicker the more you post relevant articles and thoughts that encourage good discussion. The more you can tie those posts back to Ayn Rand, Objectivism and the movies the more participation you'll see on your posts -at least until everyone gets to know you better. That's just my take, others may disagree.
No there was someone that posted something vile, he proved the point of that debate but the example provided was over the line. He refused to even apologize and went on with another rant, that contained some valid points acknowledged his error but they want him to apologize so he is censured when he posts they appear to automatically get hidden unless people want to look at it. So is it censored in this case or censured? It is censured.
Why are you asking me? I'm just a poster here. I give a few points, but not often - usually only for very witty or insightful posts. I don't particularly care one way or another about them. It seems that some here are so enamored with them that they get very excited to give/receive. As for being on the top of the points, that's merely a function of having a lot to say, and having a bit of time in the past few weeks. That's about to change, so I'll likely be dropping rapidly and soon. As for what others give me or ding me, that's up to them. For example, I see that my post above about complaining so much now has 5 points. That seems to indicate that 4 others found that useful, insightful, or agree. There is only one poster here of whom I've ever made a concerted effort to affect - and that was due to an undue number of posts that were what I considered spam. If you hover your mouse over the down thumb you will see that it says to use that if "this is spam." I felt it was an appropriate use and will defend that position.
If I buy ice cream from an ice cream parlor, and there is an insect in it, I do believe I have the right to complain about the product I purchased not meeting expectations, how the owner runs his business notwithstanding.
"The owner", I submit, is an inapt term. "The proprietor" would be accurate.
One is labeled a "moocher" if one does not give money to the website.
Curiously enough, after less than a week(?), I cancelled my producer upgrade, have not yet received a partial refund, and yet am no longer able to send private messages.
Then explain why even when a point is proven and the language is appropriate, there are still points taken away and why on any given day there are a few that are always on top of the points scale. It's an emotional response not an objective response. .
Me thinks you post too much! Not sure why you are a moocher. The site should grow and get better. Just because you post so much and make this your life doesn't mean you should tell anyone to leave.

People have always held the mistaken belief that I need an audience to pontificate, however :)
