    maph, <br />I understand this is an important issue for you. and it was ONE of the laws discussed in the podcast. but can you see that you have taken over pirate's post? I have my own important issues that I would speak out on in posts, such as intellectual property and I understand your passion about the issue. but when you get multiple people telling you they'd like to see you comment about other subjects-consider taking the hint and post something separately. You can control the conversation in your own post if you like. What I see happening here is you're getting downvotes because people don't want to discuss it this much. We're getting brow-beaten. You can't persuade or educate under these circumstances.

    Not necessarily. You're operating on the assumption that transgender individuals always look like a member of their birth sex, and not a member of the sex they're transitioning to. However, that assumption is incorrect. Most of the time, transgender individuals are virtually indistinguishable from anyone else.     Yeah, I can remember my youngest son about the age of two or so making up a lot of words. They didn't make sense then, and they don't now regardless of who does it.

    Are you kidding? It's the only subject you offer anything about. Get your brain off of genitals- like genitals and perhaps we could have a conversation. But you only have one subject to offer. A one way street, a one way valve, one 24 hour a day channel. Anything and everything a person could ever not to want to know about homosexuality. <br /><br />You Sir, are boring.

    Hmm... the "real me" doesn't wear clothes. Does this mean you'll support federal legislation to allow public nudity, everywhere? <br /><br />The "real me" is a velociraptor. Would you support my species reassignment surgery, and then allow me access to the human's feedin.. I mean locker rooms? <br /><br />What you are advocating is forcing others to accept the mental issues (to put it politely) of other people, in public. <br /><br />What the law is is an irrational legal solution to a psychological problem. <br /><br />No wonder we have so many people, particularly legislators, who say, "I want it, therefore it is". <br /><br />"An honest man does not desire until he has identified the object of his desire. He says: 'It is, therefore I want it.' They say: 'I want it, therefore it is.’"

    They were castrata if I remember correctly. I don't think I'd use the example of children just chosen at random for such a 'surgery' for the castle or house servants or harem guards, or the boy sopranos or the church, or the 8 year old Muslim girls.

    Right, I wasn't talking about those kinds of people, either. <br /><br />I was talking more about the Hijra of South Asia, the Waria of Indonesia, the Fa'afafine of the Pacific Isles, the Two Spirit people of the Native Americans, and so forth.

    Actually, surgery to change genitals from male to female is one of the most ancient forms of surgery (though granted, modern techniques are far superior to those used 2,000 years ago). There are countless others. They exist in every society, and have since the dawn of civilization.

    Because, while I'm a conservative, I do agree in principle with the Objectivist value that A=A. <br />You're complicating life for a lot of people for a very very small minority of people. You are, in effect, saying to each normal person, "cope, because... feelings" and refuse to tell the person with the problem, "cope... the world sucks". <br /><br />

    I'm not a Progressive. I'm a Libertarian. I just happen to be will enough informed on this particular subject to know that it's based on legitimate physical conditions, and not any so-called "cultural values". :P

    I wonder how much of this problem existed 100 years ago and how much of it is derived from people not having enough to do with their time, coupled with the "there is a mental problem for everyone" issue. <br /><br />Honestly there is no reason children should not stick with their birth gender in all ways while they are young. If a kid is found to have gender issues they can have attention paid to that with the understanding that something can be done about it when they are adults. Trying to compensate for their "feelings" growing up does nothing but cause more problems.
