DO NOT HIT THE X.

Tech giant using 'unthinkable tricks' to take over machines, force controversial 'upgrade.

Inside a logo box in the ad is a scheduled date for a mandatory upgrade. The user must look in the tiny type just below that line and find where it says “here” and click on that to avoid the upgrade.

    Ladies and Gentlemen
Microsoft has gone out of their was to not only be a nuisance but to hijack your computer. All hail the people who see these things and say "Oh no you don't" to big brother Gates. Go to this site and download the GWX Control Panel. This gives you complete control over Microsoft 10. It will rid you of the icon, the popups, and the sneaky add ons Microsoft is sticking on your pc related to Windows 10. I refurbish computers. I ask every customer whether they want to or intend to upgrade to Microsoft 10. At least 80% have no interest. Before I send them out the door I add this program, remove all of 10's crazy stuff and everyone's happy. Here is the link:

In case one did not read the fine print, with Windows 10, MS essentially watches everything on your laptop, all the content you work to create is no longer yours. DO NOT UPGRADE to Windows 10!!

    Source B: https://privacy.microsoft.com/en-us/p...
    Source C:http://www.cio.com/article/2949626/wi...

Source D: (always a great read) https://tosdr.org/ <-- (please take a moment to understand some of the ramifications of what is written here!)

Think of it this way; in the old days, banks took peoples money and basically paid them to hold their money by paying out interest. Some still do. However, on the flip side, banks were using that money to earn money for themselves, with loans, et. al.

Now, the CLOUD service provides - DropBox, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, nearly all of them - provide discounted or free storage to unsuspecting users. Sure, its secure. Sure, they would never copy your data outright, for free.. but, there is ALWAYS a flip-side. Cloud service providers sell access to your data & meta-data (data ABOUT when/how/from where you access your data .. and how often) to marketers willing to pay for such. Someone is always paying for the hardware on which your data resides. If its not you upfront, its you on the backside, often without your knowledge or involvement.

Ever wonder how/why, e.g., your list of email recipients on Yahoo! mail suddenly appears in your LinkedIn list of "People You May Want to Know" ? Guess who's receiving your contact information on the other side? Yes, that's right Yahoo! email service is free for a reason... LinkedIn, among others, is paying for access to your private(?) data.

Microsoft Windows 10 is but the LATEST of a trend in IT where consumers pay for their services via broadcasting minutia about themselves to the marketing world. Buyer beware.

There is a reason that Linux is not expensive. When it was copyrighted (patented?). Anyway, the person (or persons) wanted it to be available to everyone. So, you may download it for free. You can make improvements and then sell that program, however, you MUST include the source code. This would be like Coca Cola printing the formula on every bottle. Once you buy one bottle, you can use the formula or recipe to make your own coke. That is why their formula is secret and why Linux source code is not.

I'm still using win 7 professional. But then, I had to be dragged to the first windows. I learned ms-dos back when 640 k was the maxed out ram. File names were 8 characters long. Eventually, I had to change to keep up with the tech. Still, I do not upgrade till all the bugs are worked out of the system, and I always use the keyboard instead of the mouse, if possible. You may be surprised at how quick the keyboard can be. Good luck with ten. If they ever get the bugs out, I just might upgrade.

With BootCamp, available for the Mac, you can switch between Windows and OS-X. This is not a virtual machine, like Parallels, so if speed (like for gaming) is critical, you're better off with BootCamp.

Bahahaha, sorry I had to laugh. I have been telling people about Windows 10 since it was first announced, and being provided "FREE" or so people think.

EVERYTHING has a price, and the price of Windows 10 is your privacy.

I will refer you to Paragraph 6 of the Windows 10 EULA.

    6. Updates. The softwareperiodically checks for system and app updates, and downloads and installs them for you. You may obtain updates only from Microsoft or authorized sources, and Microsoft may need to update your system to provide you with those updates. By accepting this agreement, you agree to receive these types of automatic updates without any additional notice.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/Usete...

So Microsoft can by YOUR agreement of installing their OS on your system, undate, upgrade, install and pretty much to anything THEY want anytime THEY want and you have totally agreed to it.

    INSTALL LINUX!!! Dump Microsoft,

Try http://releases.ubuntu.com/14.04/ near the beginning is a link to 2 desktop versions (pick the one that corresponds to your processor (32 or 64 bit) and download it for free. That is how I got it. The $15 Amazon version is fine - the price covers the cost of the thumb drive it comes on. 14.04 is called an LTS version which means it has Long Term Support. I've never tried a beta because I'm not very computer savvy. There is a newer version (16.04) which I haven't downloaded yet.

While i don't agree at all with this type of tricky installer/forced recommended "update", as a person working in IT I am a little excited for a world where a lot more people are now aware to read the darn dialogue boxes they so often click right through.

Other shady and even not so shady software has been doing the ol' hide the button trick for years resulting in my hearing the phrase "well I never installed that", "I have no idea where it came from" & "It just appeared out of nowhere".

Yes it's sad to see microsoft stoop to these levels but try and remember your computer is your responsibility and no one is "taking over" your machine or "hijacking" you.

I am interested in moving to Linux, but I don't know which versions are best. One person posted that Linux Ubuntu was best but in looking it up on Amazon it is about $15.00 (assuming I found the right one) which seems too cheap to me. Can someone provide a link to a good version? Thanks :-)

What's wrong with these people? My guess is that they possess the mindset to vote Progressive.
