Trump to meet with Mexican President prior to today’s major immigration speech
posted at 8:01 am on August 31, 2016 by Larry O'Connor

In a surprise Twitter announcement, Donald Trump revealed he will be meeting with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto this morning:

Trump is also scheduled to deliver a much-anticipated speech on his immigration policy later today in Arizona.

It’s an interesting and surprising strategy from Trump considering Pena Nieto is on the record comparing Trump to Hitler and Mussolini:

Asked by Excelsior whether there was a “scenario” under which Mexico would pay if Trump won the presidency, Pena Nieto was clear. “There is no scenario,” he said. “I have to say that I regret (the plan), and of course, I can’t agree with this American politician’s position.”

Pena Nieto attacked the “populism” of the Trump campaign, which he said sought to put forward “very easy, simple solutions to problems that are obviously not that easy to solve.”

“And there have been episodes in human history, unfortunately, where these expressions of this strident rhetoric have only led to very ominous situations in the history of humanity,” the Mexican president added.

“That’s how Mussolini got in, that’s how Hitler got in, they took advantage of a situation, a problem perhaps, which humanity was going through at the time, after an economic crisis.

This is a chance for Trump to show that he can play the role of statesman and diplomat. After all, if he’s willing to meet with the Mexican President after all of the rhetoric from his campaign and the vitriol from critics of his order security policy, he could do business with anyone. The meeting cuts directly across one of the more effective memes of the Clinton campaign in which the former Secretary of State has been able to capitalize on the perception that Trump is an inexperienced loose cannon who would embarrass the United States on the international stage.

If Pena Nieto decides to grandstand and trash Trump after the meeting by suggesting that he is unqualified to deal with international issues, he could actually help Trump by making the GOP candidate look like “the bigger man” and allow the billionaire real estate magnet to proclaim that it’s the Mexican government that is intransigent and this is why the US needs to take a hard line.

Either way, Trump seems to have pull off an impressive political maneuver similar to his last-minute trip to Louisiana ten days ago to aid the flood relief effort. While Trump shows decisive and bold action, Hillary Clinton sits on the side and plays out the clock.

Que fascinante.

Mexico's invitation was never meant to be accepted. By accepting it and actually going there Trump caught President Pena Watsisname's pants at half mast. I think it was a brilliant move on Trump's part, confirms that when he says he'll meet with leaders, he'll actually meet with leaders. Of course, Trump says one thing about the meeting and was complimentary, while Pena Potatohead disparaged the whole thing. By doing that, Trump illustrated the difference between positive forthrightness and petty weaseling.

So glad we finally have a presidential candidate who is “business-first”. That is the engine of the economy, not big (and getting bigger) government preached by the other side.

Standard Trump MO . Bloviate and exaggerate get the press for free . Put the opponents on the defense and keep them there . Make outrageous demands and be unpredictable ...until it comes time for the nut-cuttery . Then he is and has always been business first make the deal close the deal and move on . Saw this coming when he started . Has played the media like a cheap fiddle .

No question that he (Trump) has been acting far more Presidential in the last few weeks. The polls are beginning to reflect that his programs are far better than Hillary’s. He is certainly not an Objectivist, but head and shoulders over his opponent who is a closet socialist (more taxes, more big government, even wanting price controls).

check the polls Clinton dropped from 5 to 4.4 today in a four way and 4.6 in a two way. Well withing margin of error each way and she's been classified by the pollsters as officially in decline. when iyou look at state by state her hold on 270 is not only gone but the remainder is razor thin.

As for Politcos point of view the town here is quiet work as normal no one in the streets, no one in a rage Answered a couple of questions they hadn't heard about any rage filled whatever. Most spirited discussion were two gringos. Big Mystery unless further is forthcoming but here it's a ghost town 62 shopping carts outside the store and four inside.

No telling but both know how to deal and one is a politician. He's interested in investments in Mexico and jobs for Mexicans not trade with Europe .Trump is famous for making deals he'll be looking at fast vetting of applicants for felons, an imiproved Green Card and Bracero Program. More affordable Mexian passports fo their citizens not PERHAPS not granting amnesty but bracero or green card registration for getting rid of some namely the felons and law breakers, To name some of the important items. Also expansioni of the Sonora Free Zone.

And so what. Meaningless if he isn't elected, a head start if he is elected. What you would rather have MSNBC make the deal?

Halting illegal immigration and the 20 Billion dollars it send to Mexico each year would pay for the wall. With a little creative thought, Trump threatening Mexico with halting a $20B a year reliable revenue stream would compel Mexico to offer to pay for said wall provided DT softened his stance to allow the money to keep flowing South.

Par for the course, we in Arizona and other border states gets screwed, the American politicians past-time.

Clinton ignores Mexico that has not gone un-noticed and does not hold sway with all the Latino American Population.

But down here south of the border her racist side is a subject of some discussion.

To correct one story it is NOT true that a third option is to pay Mexico to build a wall - though they would welcome the employment. That started we think as a chistozo or joke.

But the reaction from Clinton is yet another example of a subject they should not want to discuss giving the inexperience of the former Secretary of State in anything but .....the Clinton Foundation bottom line. Meeting 16,000 people in four years or 4,000 per year or 11 per day counting Sat. Sun. and Holidays etc doesn't leave much time for meaningful conversation but 89 certainly seems to have been successful.
