When I was in high school (and that was about 5 years ago), our AP US History supplemental reading was Howard Zinn's People's History of the United States. Fortunately, I had a teacher who pointed out that he was a communist and should be regarded with appropriate skepticism, but I suspect a lot of kids didn't receive the same warning. I think a lot of education occurs nowadays in spite of the best efforts of the school systems.

What do they teach in the schools today? Our brightest young people seem to be completely clueless about civics, history and economics. My youngest kid is 43 so I am out of touch with the educational system.

Good points. Too bad most of those demonstrating are too brainwashed and ignorant to understand or make rational decisions about government.
