On a thread, I can click on a producer's Gulch name and his/her "submitted" posts come up. If I bookmark that page I can bring it up again anytime with one click. If I want comments instead, I can change "submitted" to "comments" in the dropdown menu and bookmark that.

I'm not sure there is a way to follow other members. If you see a post you are interested in you can click on "subscribe to comments" and get alerts each time a comment is submitted. Welcome to the Gulch.
