I would define a derringer as one or more short barrel, single shot chambers in a single frame, operated through one trigger.

That would cover the gamut from single barrel to "pepperbox"

The rather rare but incredibly dangerous "unloaded" gun - you know, the shooter is crying and saying "I didn't think it was loaded!!"

And I want to know how this writer distinguishes a "pistol" from a "revolver" from a "derringer". The writer should not be allowed access to a dangerous item like a computer, especially if it's connected to the internet. oh, the horror....

When I was young I used to look at the Rolling Stone from time to time to check the charts and catch a glimpse behind the scenes of the bands I listened to. A few year back I ordered Popular Mechanics via Amazon off a deeply discounted promotion. Rolling Stone decided to send me 6 months for free unasked. I witnessed page after page, including the cover, of Mitt Romney being slammed for his Mormonism and his political record. I canceled the complementary subscription by phone after 3 months.

Rolling Stone is not a viable or credible source of information for anything anymore - including music.

Without that you would expect discussion of specific makes and models not general categories

A Derringer is a "contact" weapon, not a range weapon. But if properly used as deadly as any other.

That particular derringer is chambered for 410 bore shot / 45 colt/long colt. 45 Colt is the round that "won the west", and a shotshell, even a 410, is not to be sneered at in contempt.
