J_IR? That looks suspicious to me. The IR is also the first two letters of my last name.

NO, the next letter is not S.

I've only read two more paragraphs and I have tears in my eyes... I skipped to the end and it made it worse. This is unbelievable! Please post this, J_lR. Everybody should read this. Also, how did you find this and what facts do you have to go along with this? I want to print it out to eventually give out to some teacher friends, but I need more facts about how it relates to Common Core or they won't be convinced...heck they might not get it anyway.
Also...give us a nicname for you...typing j_lR1776wg is to awkward to type. lol

A philosopher, albeit a bad one, who was honorary president of the NEA in the 1930s and is the father of modern education and Common Core. It is his ideas that I'm trying to kill.

I will read this all later, but I just read this part:
"If we eliminate the social factor from the child we are left only with an abstraction; if we eliminate the individual factor from society, we are left only with an inert and lifeless mass. Education, therefore, must begin with a psychological insight into the child's capacities, interests, and habits. It must be controlled at every point by reference to these same considerations. These powers, interests, and habits must be continually interpreted - we must know what they mean. They must be translated into terms of their social equivalents - into terms of what they are capable of in the way of social service."
SOCIAL SERVICE???? Who the hell is this asshole anyway??

Indoctrination. Let's make a list of words that will cause anger and send them to Washington DC... What is really sad is that most parents don't give a damn..

Read "Farnham's Freehold' by Robert Heinlein. Save your printed books, esp encyclopedias. You will need them. And make sure they have a safe hiding place.

This makes me crazy, as if I need any more excuses.. I was taught the differences in capitalism, socialism & communism in school and because my Father was an Atlas Shrugged/ Ayn Rand fan, I learned a lot more about it at home. I can't understand it, how people can get any book they desire, but refuse to learn facts. A=A. I feel very fortunate to be able to study facts and freedom. So many people have no idea what it would be like if we had none. Unfortunately, they may very soon find out. Especially if this is what our public schools are teaching our kids :(

Or would agree with it even, perhaps out of ignorance. I once read the book "Island of the Blue Dolphin" about a girl who was left (by mistake) on an island of her people who were trying to escape from some bad guys (don't remember who). Anyway she was left alone on this island to survive by herself for a couple decades. She had many memories of her little brother and herself digging roots etc for their family meals and in one memory they looked out on the ocean and saw a really big bird and it gradually got closer and closer and then they thought the bird looked more like a large canoe ..with wings and they couldn't stop watching this thing on the water that they had never seen before. How could a bird be that big and sit on the water for so long? It was really a ship with many sails, but since that had never in their life seen or even heard of a ship they couldn't name it when it was in front of their face. The could not recognize it because they had no knowledge of what a ship was or that they even existed. My point is..... if you don't know what socialism is, or how it begins, or what kind of thinking needs to be in existence for it to thrive, then you won't recognize it in any form...especially in your children's home work/class work that is being disguised as a writing exercise to invoke emotion to help society. The void where logic should be will go unnoticed by many parents.
