I recall reading about a UFO convention many years ago. One of those people pointed up at a passing passenger jet and said it was a UFO. Told by others that the aircraft was a passenger jet, the loonie kept insisting it was a UFO.

The whole idea of religion is to propound fixed "beliefs" that are declared to be true. Anything else is heresy. Most religions today are a bit more tolerant of infidels and are willing to get along with them. EXCEPT for Islam. As far as I am concerned, if killing the infidels is intheir bible, I want nothing to do with muslims. Call me islamaphobic, I dont care. I will do what is needed to keep ME safe- to hell with PC.

I posted that despite having a crappy day myself. I hit a pothole from hell that I didn't even see. All my oil spilled plus radiator and other engine damage.. Thought I only had a bent fender as I backed out.
I drove on until the car computer cut off the engine so it would not lock up. Lucky me. Only then did I realize I was really screwed.
Relatives came to the rescue. We had to wait two hours for the wrecker to show up so I could give the dude my ignition key.
Today Progressive called to say I'll have to pay $500 for $3,832.96 of damage. Car should be ready June 6, the same day my son is supposed to have an operation for a herniated disk. So D-Day may prove to be problematic.
The City of Hueytown has been fixing a lot of potholes along the stretch where I wrecked.
My son in law said he saw an orange cone at that pothole from hell when he drove back home.
I told him I would have appreciated that cone there earlier.

Progressive left-wing proponents are Marxists who believe the current governments aren't using their powers to equalize society for those being oppressed. They are the epitome of wanting Ms. Rand's moochers and looters in reality. The problem is they cannot see beyond their beliefs and don't see that they are useful idiots that will be purged once they have served their purpose.

Belief is dangerous because it means acceptance as true based on an authority rather than understanding. Belief is popular because it requires far less effort than understanding so in that context belief is the lazy mans ideology. Liberal progressivism is a secular religion and is a variation of Marxism.

It's incredibly misleading to talk about any individual "religion" with hard and fast rules. As soon as you have any reasonable size, you're going to have differences between the individuals about certain portions of their religions. I agree with you that making wide sweeping generalizations is poor reasoning (which is why it is curious you make one in your first sentence).

That's why it is always better to talk about principles. Discuss the principles behind any given ideology and you not only get to the heart of the matter, but then have a true measuring stick for whether against which you can measure someone's actions.

Extremism is often difficult to distinguish from parody and tolling. So it's hard to know if he means that crap. My guess is someone who feels the need to write it on a sign knows on some level it's nonsense.

Christians believe the same things. Not all Christians do; neither do all Muslims. Jews no longer kill homosexuals, but it is still against their Bible. Not all Jews have old Abrahamic ideas about women, but some sects do. And it does not take religion per se to hold those ideas, as they are widespread around the planet. You can find practicing homosexuals who are against freedom of speech: snowflakes in their "safe zones."

In fact, also, many people whom you would call "liberals" or "progressives" know full well the dangers of radical Islam, as well as the dangers of fundamentalist Christianity or orthodox Judaism ... or for that matter Buddhism... As insightful as Christopher Hitchens was, Ayn Rand was more cogent. She explained clearly why the mystics and altruists are a threat to civilization, and why many liberals and conservatives do not understand the nature of that threat.
