    I believe that is the way it used to be. I don't remember when it changed but think it was after the civil war.

    I also agree with your taxes solution. At least it would be a step in the right direction.

    The people of each state have enough representation with in the House (based on population). Senators SHOULD be lieutenants to the State Governor, doing the Governors bidding for the State and nothing more (no backroom deals, no corporate buy offs, etc.)

    I also believe State Senators should not be elected, they should be appointed by the Governors of each state. In this capacity THEY are beholden to the State/Governor and can be fired if they stray from what the Governor wants for the State from the Fedgov. Senators forget that they work for the State. Who need term limits for these State employees?

    Which is why I believe there should only be 50 tax payers to the federal government. States should collect taxed from their populations via consumption and then provide 1/50th or the national total to the FedGov to operate. This way 320 million people don't have to deal with the federal government annually, the federal government HAS TO be beholden to each State to be paid, and the IRS can be disbanded. Also, MANY federal programs can be washed away since the States have the funds to manage those things themselves.

    Just a thought.

    I think we would have more states onboard if we had a way or the will to deny the Fed our state (everyone) tax money so the states wouldn't cave in need of Federal Grants for it's infrastructure.

    The Selectman from my town informed me that the State has it's claws on local generated tax money and we had to Fight to get some of it back!
    I said...(you know what I advised already)...well, don't give it to them in the first place.

    The same would go for the State versus the Federal Government.
