Don't kneel. Sit here to crap on your jobs and the future of the NFL.

I'm a veteran. I hold the symbol of the flag, anthem and memory of my fellow troopers who did not return, very dearly. No apology. To me, I can't hear whatever cause you may have, real or perceived, because I won't get past the fact that you're disrespecting the flag, anthem and veterans. In my eyes, I do agree that if you disrespect our flag and anthem, you ARE a son of bitch for doing so. No apology there either. If you feel this is an assault on the right to freedom of speech, I'm not, I'm exercising mine.
This all started because a QT that was losing his mojo was pissed because he knew he was going to be eventually cut. Somehow, the media turned it into something bigger than what it was. A contributor to the escalations were the team owners who failed to correct it immediately mistakenly thinking that ignoring the problem child was the politically correct thing to do. The problem was magnified when the league commissioner didn't have the cojones to put an end to it. A simple solution would have been to arrange a conference in support of the players to vent, but have a rule of no protest on game day.

Last Sunday, 3 of my beloved Packers took a knee. I didn't watch game. Later I was happy my Packers won. However, if this continues, it won't matter to me whether they win or lose anymore. I've done quite well without the NFL. If this turns out to be the demise of the NFL, an American family tradition, it will be on the Commissioner and Owner's shoulders. I for one, will continue to do well without the NFL or any other league that shows such disrespect.

Agree with Steve Bannon who said the players should kneel to GOD, thankful to be living in a country where you are even ALLOWED to protest!

+1 and I'm assuming you mean nationalism in a good sense, as in respect and protect our Constitutional Republic as it is meant to be.

I see the knee takers as being illogical in claiming they are exercising a Constitutional right to trash and disrespect the very symbols of the Republic based on the Constitution that protects that right from government intrusion. Freedom without responsibility is freedom corrupted. They are irresponsible in exercising that right and are, therefore, corrupting it. Americans don't stand at events to show respect for the National anthem or flag because some dictator demands they do so or even as though it were the national religion, but because they respect the noble ideals they represent.

The knee takers remind me of an old saying I heard in much younger days: "When God gave out brains they thought he said trains and didn't want any".

Disagree. DT did this deliberately to create this environment, fanning nationalism. Think about it, the country is already being torn apart by leftist who are tearing down and sullying anything and everything that is American about America, they constantly are trying to skewer DT (most times without legitimate cause or fact) and its evident in all media and hollywood. Clearly DT is drawing the societal battle lines where they present themselves. Considering the amount of cancer this country has in it, I have to applaud him for it. You can't fix/restore something until you isolate the damage and work to correct it. Does anyone trust the media now? BLM? Pro athletes? actors/actresses? politicians (r or d)? DT has highlighted them very effectively simply by challenging their perceived self-entitled right to be the only voice framing every issue.

My cynical side makes me wonder what we're not focusing on as these social battles keep arising?

Football is inconsequential and needs to be reminded of their place in reality.
As a veteran, I do not see dropping to a knee, whether a few players or an entire team, during the national anthem as respectful in any way. These folks are paid to play a game for public entertainment, a meaningless aside where the public gets a break from reality for a few hours (while getting obscenely overcharged for literally everything they want), and not to force their views or opinions on a captive audience who paid money for their product. The players constantly tell us, as they vie for their tens of millions of dollars per year every few years, that football is a business. Since this is true then they should act like the commodity and act and do what they are being paid for: playing football.

I do not agree that people should HAVE TO recite or stand for the anthem, even so the NFL is paid to do this and their elitist, self-important players need to leave their personal non-football opinions outside the stadiums, stand for the pledge as they are being paid to by secret tax payer dollars, and earn their pay.

The athlete is an employee of a private business. The business owner is the one who should be concerned with the actions of his employees while at work, not the POTUS.
Trump has done a fair job of avoiding unwinnable battles with no upside. This one he has stepped in a pile up to his neck and he should be working on killing Obamacare, the EPA, the Drug War, etc instead. Really stupid letting the media lead him astray.
