MarketWatch's Thomas Bemis discusses the countries with the most ultra-wealthy residents, those with $30 million or more in total assets, based on data recently published by wealth research group Wealth-X and UBS.

1. United States - 65,000
2. Germany - 18,000
3. Japan - 14,000
4. U.K. - 11,000
5. China - 10,675

    Hmm, I've just done some calculating, and although it's true that the U.S. leads the hard numbers by a wide margin, the places change when you go by percentages of the population...

    Going by population percentage would also potentially open up the door to nations with smaller populations but a high percentage of wealthy citizens to rank on the chart.
