An Appeal

This is probably a violation of the philosophy of this place, but I've a friend who could use some help. The only repayment would be the empowerment of another ally.

This friend is a young woman whom I've known for some years. She's very bright, very industrious, and fairly conservative in her views.
She's living in the Toronto area, and hasn't been able to find work for some time. She's been trying to go to school to become a paralegal, as well. Predictably, the longer she's gone w/o working, the harder to find work it has become.
We're actually discussing her situation on Skype, and she's feeling a frustration very familiar to me. All she wants is the opportunity to work; to trade value for value. She doesn't want welfare, she wants to work. I think the need to be productive is more important to her than feeding herself.

I fear she's on the verge of giving up.

All I'm asking is that, if anyone who lives or works in the area knows of an entry-level position available, or who themselves need dedicated workers, could you please let me know so I can pass the information on to her and improve her chances of finding work?

I found a job that way. I just got a stack of resumes and went to every company in town. If you have a good attitude, you'll at least make some contacts. You just go with the attitude it would be exciting to find work but 99% of places won't have a need at this time.

Until very recently (Florida) unemployment recipients could file every two weeks online, and they were on the honor system as to trying to find work.

Last I heard, they now have to provide data that can be spot checked for accuracy. The penalty for 'fibbing' can be costly...including a return of past benefits. This was pushed through by our Republican Governor, and he was skewered for it.

we used to have people come into the office with their unemployment forms and just ask us to sign that they asked for a job and we didn't have anything.
