Laboratory grown meats will eventually become cost competitive with range-grown beef. At that point the cattle industry will focus on producing high quality "source" stock from much smaller herds. Artificially grown ground beef will be the first product, with some examples being test marketed now, but I don't see the possibility of manufactured articles that resemble familiar beef cuts anytime soon. It makes me wonder if those who are vegetarian because they're against killing animals will be able to eat the lab grown product with a clear conscience.

This is absolutely scary. Processed foods and certain vegetables (nightshades) turn out to be at the heart of my health problems. Imagine your doctor telling you: Stop eating processed foods. Stick with Meat, Veggies. No potatoes, legume, tomatoes...
