Hmmm... a Tesla Roadster with a politician, er, dummy in the seat, with a miniature Tesla with politician in it, and an "Arch" (pronounced "Ark"). This concept has made itself used in Sci Fi books in the last few years, one series being The Frontiers Saga, with a "Data Ark" helping humanity after a 1000 year dark age get back into space where they were before.

I think I actually saw the tweet exchange that caught Musk's attention go by. The ability to make archival copies of large amounts of data is a good thing, we have lots of data.

As to launching it, like the roadster it's just promotional. They were using it all as test weight rather than a bunch of bricks.

"Arch will also send a full archive of Wikipedia"
Great, now the taxpayer pays to put statist biased propaganda into orbit, too.

As described, how does this so-called project help humanity? If we put all of humanity's knowledge in orbit today, how would humanity ever use it unless they had already achieved the technology to get up there and retrieve it?

Another distraction from what was actually put into orbit- secretly.
