Yes, anyone with half a brain could predict the outcome. I am glad they tried it, however, just so that other people can point that no one else needs to try it ever again. Not that it will stop the ideologues on the left from trying...

I still find progressives that maintain the only reason communism fails is the result of sabotage by capitalists. Socialism and its adherents represent a mass movement, requiring zealots to lead, and obedient masses to follow unquestioningly.

Bernie Sanders and his competitors on the left are now promising "free" college, "free" medical care, and "guaranteed" jobs (translation: if you can't find a job, government will offer you public projects work). If the last promise meant an end to welfare, that might not be a bad thing, but when questioned about the creation of government slave labor, Bernie promised the guarantee would be only for those who want to work. Welfare queens need not apply, as they'll still get their checks.

“If you want more of something, subsidize it. If you want less of something, tax it.”
    Ronald Reagan

“From each according to his ability, to each according to his need”
    Karl Marx

And that is just one thing that shows why socialism will never work. This is [historically] deadly when these are physically applied to need and ability.
