I Stand for the Flag but I Won't Stand for This

The administration argues that this absurd policy is more humane than the alternative, but using children as leverage to deter families fleeing three of the most dangerous countries in the world — El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras — is simply un-American. By the way, for migrants who are screened from these countries, high rates of asylum are granted based on credible fear. Now, those asylum-seekers have another fear: that the U.S. will do to their families what criminals and tyrants back home couldn’t manage.

People from horrible places (for instance, the Soviet Union) have come here and been good citizens, I believe. And as to being ignorant, once they got here and had opportunity, they managed to remedy that defect. No, I do not believe they should be allowed to just jump the fence. One thing that should be done is just to eliminate the welfare state, including for native-born citizens, and to have free enterprise here,
within the country. And even before that, just make foreign people who are not yet citizens ineligible for welfare benefits.

Dagny's case was different in that she entered The Gulch, accidentally, not surreptitiously. Also, John took total responsibility for her, while she was in The Gulch, so that she would not be an undesired burden on others.

Now, if the bleeding hearts liberals wish to extend welcome to all these undocumented (illegal) aliens...let THEM pay for ALL of the expenses, including reparations for any crimes committed by their "guests".

As for true asylum seekers...let them have their day in court, though I would consider a different source of financial support other than the taxpayers of our country. Are we giving any financial aid to Guatemala or Honduras? Hold it back to pay for their fleeing citizenry.

I'll bet that if we threatened to withhold monies from some of our other "friends" out there...they would offer to send some folks to help "regulate" the flow of these asylum seekers.

    Oh...BAD Randy, BAD Randy...

That may not be a joke!
To prevent risky journeys in small boats, Australia's green/left want to fly would-be migrants in, not the "smart, well-educated, industrious people" that our straightlinelogic speaks of. Instead, those from a certain 'central' part of the world with a reputation for successful manipulation of the welfare system.

Fully aware but we we were under the rule of others at that time. Different now and since 1776.

Weed them out and dump the unwilling to change back to their origin. Or maybe the socialists in Europe would like to have them ;^)

Ah, but unfortunately, many asylum seekers do not come the rest of the way. Your policy would be reasonable for the Gulch.

Term2 is not against all immigrants. Immigrants who want to be a part of our basic culture, and who have something to add to the country are certainly welcome. But taking in immigrants from places like somalia and syria and central america who have little talent and less skills- makes NO sense at all. We would be better off just not having them in the country.

That would make it much more difficult to learn to be American and to understand the importance of American traditional culture.

Maybe we could introduce a "tariff" on Mexico. Say maybe $50,000 for every illegal that came thru Mexico on their way here. If Mexico aint gonna help, then they should pay.

Hmmmm....an island. Lets send some of 'em to Puerto Rico. They can help restoring from storm damage. They speak the same language and everything. Of course competing gangs could be a problem. Again, hmmmm...that also could fix some problems.

I'd say the Gulch dwellers have already paid for the land, but I'd definitely pay for the guarantee of liberty from federal interference.
As for the immigrants seeking asylum they should earn their place by working to create a successful free market territory while assimilating to American traditional culture as completely as possible. No one comes the rest of the way without learning English and demonstrating an understanding of respect for individual liberty, the evil of central government power, the importance of work ethic, and the danger of enslavement via government handouts.

There was such a problem in the Gulch. Gulchers had a "wall" of a sort. Dagny was permitted to stay ... only for a while while her case was being processed and only because she had merit.

You may not know that most of the Founders of our Republic came from England, which had a revolution in 1688 to create a new constitution whereby Parliament chose the kling. The Bill of Rights of 1689 with the right to keep arms was also part of that. So, why let in any more Englanders after 1689? Just put up an Atlantic Wall and keep the continent for the Natives?

The northern Marianas Islands (US Commonwealth) have several uninhabited islands. Give one to the illegal immigrants and one to the denizens of Galt's Gulch Online.

It's a dark comedy, like something from Brazil.

Treating this kids humanely should be easy for an advanced society. President Trump uses them for political points. Trump's political opponents start licking their chops at using these refugees to make Trump look bad. It's a dark comedy becauses it exposes how leaders put their careers ahead of solving problems. The really dark part is a bunch of citizens not involved in politics take up the cause of helping politicians discredit one another, sometimes contorting themselves into defending locking up children. It's a misanthropic dark comedy that requires suspension of disbelief. I can understand what Melania might have meant by wearing the I-don't-care jacket. If I were married to someone in that industry, I'd have an urge to say, "Don't look at me for material to make one another look bad. I'm married to this goat rodeo but not taking part in it."

    "take these countries over"
That's exactly the mistake the neocons have purposely made repeatedly in order to maintain the forever war that is so popular with big government statists and the war industry. It's how they destroy what remains of American liberty and ends free markets (reducing competition for the corporate looters.)
Much cheaper, more effective, and less state power just to build the wall and put troops on the southern border. Oh, and end the handouts and other socialist rubbish (including an end to corporate welfare.)

I can't disagree. We are still better than many other places, but not any where close to where we could or should be.

We used to be different than other countries, and proud of it. Now it appears we are trying to be like the other countries. I find that incredibly sad.
