OA, the reason why I ask this. There are many who believe there is a genetic component whereby the thrive (for lack of a better word) gene is somehow suppressed or latent. I don't buy that. Man has the need to survive, the only way to do so is with your brain. I do agree that cultural influences are huge and I believe that our public education system has been successful in indoctrinating 2 generations of US citizens. Unless, their parents home schooled, or have been very vigilant, these kids(now adults) have gone from K-grad school learning A=B.
Hello khalling, I don’t know if it is a genetic component (if it is it does not necessarily need to be hereditary) or a matter of socialization, but I do know that I encounter many Americans from all different strata that seem to display cognitive dissonance relative to facts that contradict their predilections. Whereas many other people are open minded enough to listen to and change their positions when confronted with contradictory information. I do agree that it would seem that more people come to right thinking when they are spending their own money, and in an environment that is conducive. I know there is a Dr. Lyle H. Rossiter, if memory serves who has written a book about his studies of the Liberal mind and has called it “madness”. Regards, O.A.
so you're suggesting there is a genetic component? I've always found that the higher the economic freedom index, the more "reasonable" people behave. I also think people tend to act with reason over emotion when things are coming out of their own pocket as opposed to their neighbors'
Hello UncommonSense, Quite right, I often wonder if it is related to right –left dominant brain hemisphere. There seems to be a lot of people who select emotion over reason… Regards, O.A.
Everything is a crisis with this administration. And Ovomit is utterly devoid of crisis management skills, much less leadership in general. Of course, this was entirely predictable given that he's never managed anything of significance.
If you have the constitutional authority to control the debt ceiling, you have a responsibility with choices to be made. If you have no choice as Mr. Obama frames the argument, then what do we have a debt ceiling for? There is no logic in the position he posits. He claims the house is obstructionist and irresponsible because they are inflexible while he issues ultimatums of inflexibility regarding the debt limit and real spending cuts, and the MSM make no note of the double standard! The house has a constitutional duty to see that our nation is not bankrupt! Oh well, too late that ship already sailed, but our president is oblivious… Why are the social engineers devoid of basic math skills? Regards, O.A.
