Do you have an escape plan like this?

I have to wonder if that floorplan is legit. They've allocated a lot of space to "living" areas, when what you need is a large storage area for food and water - the average person is going to burn 2500 calories and a gallon of water per day. The other thing not mentioned is the energy source...

I have visited NZ in the mid 80's, and it was a very nice place. Its probably a bit different now, and would be a lot different if a lot of people escaped there from the rest of the world.

Although New Zealand may not be on anyone's enemy or target list all of the socialists going there guarantee's that it will definitely be the haven they want. New Zealand already leans hard left so no one would have to be convinced to bow to the elitists, the collective is ready to accept their leaders. I don't fear the world ending with a bang (war etc.) as much as I think it will end with a wimper continually descending into democratic communism where the collective will think they are free because they get to vote for new leaders who will continue to destroy them.

Cutting back on energy usage, reliance on solar generation and solar heating would help too. No matter how you cut it, we would have to reduce our standard of living if there is an apocalypse type event.

I think that you have to move there now, really, in order to get settled and figure a long term method of survival. Theres food, water, medicines, etc that you will run out of and have to continually replenish.

Exactly. And the other issue is to actually GET there during some sort of pre-apocalypse scenario. Plus, NZ isnt going to want to accept refugees and will probably deny visa entry.

Re Power source: many of the current spacecraft that are flying have nuclear power sources, so they do exist and likely can be purchased if there are enough $ available. Power sources for craft leaving the solar system or to distance points where limited energy from sun is no longer available

This place is less Galt’s Gulch and much more Mouch’s Mire. I’ll take my chances elsewhere and avoid the ultimate cannibalism that will occur in this place.

I'd certainly have something like it if I could afford the price tag. I have to settle for something far more economical - and less insular.

Yeah, I spotted this article yesterday. I find it interesting. I don't blame them for doing this.

I think someone on this forum first pointed me to thorium reactors, which can be very small.

So it is New Zealand they are planning to live in.

Ginsburg said that much when she announced she'd move out of the USA should Trump be elected.

    Unfortunately she is still here.

The problem with places like this is that they may look like paradise now but once all these lefties move there it'll be just another CA or CT.

    I think NZ is nuclear-free.
Too bad it's not socialist-free. The CA socialists from the Bay area will feel right at home lording their elitism over all the lower classless kiwis - until the locals get pissed and discover the property must be returned to the Māori.

I have a bizarre fascination with deluxe bomb shelters like that.

Regarding energy, it seems like they could buys a supply of fuel to last some time. What would be awesome is a low-power nuclear reactor. I keep hearing we're close to having them. They produce enough energy for a few houses and are not hard to maintain. They could put their escape place in a remote area no one cares about. It's way easier than sending people to live in space.

It's a lovely place to live.
Be aware of the active volcanoes and earthquakes on the south island before you settle there. Underground bunker could be your last resting place.
