Most oxymoronic "Office of Government Ethics."

I have not been personally affected, although I am an Amateur Radio Operator and some FCC functions are on hold until they're back in operation.

I notice on the mainstream news stories about the Partial shutdown, they always emphasize the negative impact to individuals, such as "Your tax return will still be due on time but you might not get your refund!!! OMG!!!" and (this one admittedly concerns me a bit because a family member flies every week and almost always to huge population centers) Air Traffic Controllers. I know they are working but eventually they WILL go get another job if they don't get paid. TSA I am not as concerned about. They are just a PIA anyway and basically are only good for obedience training.

I suspect that if the shutdown continues into April, I might not be able to schedule a visit to the John Adams Family Farm in Quincy, Mass., as soon as I might like. That happens to be a National Park, and subject to the shutdown.

As I understand it, Charles Francis Adams basically gave the land up to the government. That was a mistake. A lot of other U.S. Presidential homes are under private maintenance, so the shutdown doesn't affect them. They include without limitation: Mount Vernon, Monticello, James K. Polk's residence in Columbia, Tenn., and Andrew Jackson's Hermitage.

This could be a bang-up opportunity to encourage voluntary educational charities to buy some of these shrines away from the National Park Service so that this sort of silly business never affects them again. That would be what they get out of it. What we get out of it, is additional privatization of that which the government should never have arrogated to itself.

My brother has a nice vacation from NASA. Love this shutdown thing.

All the folks affected by this phony shut down should be in DC carrying signs saying "NO WALL-NO WORK" and enjoying their paid vacation.

I don't know the details, but there must be several agencies whose function it is to grant permission for things you're not allowed to do until you get their permission. If those are shut down, the permission seekers certainly would be affected.

I just have a warm feeling from the knowledge that some of my overlords are experiencing some inconvenience for once. If they don't like it I suggest they go get a real job.

Well, no, actually. I think that we are going to find out that we can do without a lot of government. I mean, it is too bad about the National Parks because Independence Hall and other truly historic sites are part of that, but, really, Yosemite? Who cares? The parks can be run for a profit by management firms like Disney. They should be sold off one at time by open (Nash) bidding. What does the Department of Education do for you?

You tell me which of these you need. And, OK, I'll give you the Treasury, Defense, and Justice.

I know someone who got a letter from the IRS that mis-stated the facts of his situation and he hasn't been able to contact them to correct their stupid errors.

I hope the ultra-looting employees never get recalled and are forced to find productive work in the competitive private sector. (Flipping burgers)
